Today marks an anniversary of sorts for me. 18 years ago today I delivered my first deal using the ONE-EIGHTY crm. Some people may be unaware that the quote number at the top is merely an "odometer" of sorts, counting each and every quote created across Canada (not available in the US) every second of the day. The quote below shows #477, in a few weeks the system will be rolling over to quote #25,000,000.
In technology years - I am ancient: It was back in March of 2002 when I was presented with a sales system by my general manager - he was working on his own design. It was called Dealer Lease Systems Accelerator or "DLS Accelerator" for short. By the time I delivered my first vehicle, the system's name was changed to ONE-EIGHTY but you can still see the "DLS Accelerator" name on your login page. Currently the system is owned by ADP, under their CDK Global division.
When I started selling the software I had to get use to some stores needing a power-point presentation - they did not have internet. As well, WiFi was not as ubiquitous as a coffee machine either so long Ethernet cables were always close by. Again, in technology years, I'm ancient.
I still coach many clients on the system today and can wholeheartedly say I've never seen a system manage an automotive retailer's most important sales floor processes with better accountability than ONE-EIGHTY.
It's a beast of a system, one that most people think is antiquated, bloated and ugly in its design. Those people simply don't understand ONE-EIGHTY. Not to mention, there's still a lot of beauty between those sliding menus and drop-down boxes. As well, I firmly believe there are still many decision makers in automotive retail that don't understand or respect their CRM system, its data or its functions. Let alone the importance of process.
With any luck, the zeitgeist of automotive retail will shift and come to terms with the fact that 3rd party internet sales leads can't solve all of our problems.
Let alone complete the sale for us.
