I've Never Met Anyone Who Get's Paid to be "Busy"

I’ve never met anyone who gets paid to be “busy”.

Have you?

Probably not, if you’re being honest.

But you’d never know it by listening to us. We (Americans) wear "busy" like a badge of honor ?? ... well ... a badge of honor that we complain about. ??

We L-O-V-E the word “busy” in our culture. It’s literally become a response to “How are you?” (<— another term that’s often devoid of meaning). ?????♀?

Ok. You’re “busy”. First of all, do you know that busy is a choice? ??? All those things on your calendar - they’re your choices. ?? Funny that we never answer “how are you?” by saying “making lots of choices!” ?? <— that probably requires more responsibility than we’re used to accepting. ?????♀?

2nd, let’s talk about what “busy” is not:

* It's not unique

* It's not impressive

* It's NOT making you any more money (I'm sorry - it's NOT. Delegate)

* It's (probably not) making you any happier (not when you’re complaining about it anyway ... and I rarely here someone cheerfully exclaim how busy they are)

* It's not a way to win an award or a medal (no one’s passing out trophies for the busiest human, despite the fact that it seems we’re all competing for one) ??

We’d be better served by focus on adding VALUE than by focus on adding menial tasks to our to-do list. ??

The marketplace recognizes our VALUE, not our calendar.

Our families and communities are impacted by our PRESENCE and the QUALITY of our interactions, not the number of times we’ve seen them in passing while complaining about not having enough time ??

Let’s stop glorifying busy.

Let’s amplify the ease of things.

Let’s tell each other HOW WE ARE vs how many things we’re doing.

Let’s stop competing for the business human award and humbly ask ourselves what we can do today to ADD VALUE. ??

Who’s in? ?????♀?
