We all have a 'happy place' in this world. Without a doubt my happy place is on a moving helicopter, preferably outside of it!
Since 1991 I have been involved in nearly 4000 rescues aboard the Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter. I have been part of a team that has made a real difference to many people.
Teamwork. Planning. Having a plan 'B'. Focus. Training. Keeping your head in stressful times.
We all know these things are important. For many years my life has depended on all of these qualities.
Unfortunately, these days, I don't find myself in that happy place very often.
But I have been busy creating new happy places.
Instead of always being the ambulance (or helicopter!) at the bottom of the cliff, I now spend a lot of time being the guy preventing problems at the top of the cliff.
I am now using my years of real life emergency experience to ensure that people are prepared for disasters and emergencies.
