I've Got a Publishing Contract

I’ve just signed a contract to publish my novel Animalypse. It is a sort of divertimento that I began writing to take a break from other overwhelming projects. It is a story in the style of Sunday afternoon movies full of adventure and fun. As it began to have a lot of action, I gradually forsee it also as a movie, so the novel and its screenplay version were born as Siamese siblings. The story is a mixture of science fiction, apocalyptic catastrophism, horror, adventures and action joint by a police plot. Its characters include FBI agents, scientists, politicians, large corporations and, yes, of course, terrorists. I’ve come up with the idea inspired by an episode of the HBO VICE series. It exposed the negative consequences of the global monopoly of Monsanto agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation on the so-called genetically manipulated organisms or GMO. In the end, the story got better than I expected, so I re-edited it to publish it. I’ve sent dozens of query letters, receiving lots of rejections and getting ignored mostly. I have also published it on Amazon, but the lack of money to get minimal advertising made me unpublish it, although it still appears on my author page without being available. I concentrated then only on traditional publishing houses since these are the ones that have the resources to publish and to market it properly. I received some proposals from several publishers that I had to reject, such as those that ask for advance payments, the so-called vanity publishers, and those that offer leonine contracts. Finally, I received a decent offer from Pen It! Publications, a traditional Indiana publishing house with which I am already working. As for its Siamese sibling, its screenplay version, it is out there looking for peeping out from any screen on Hollywood or Netflix.

And, with such good news, I’ve resumed with new vigor my other long-term projects.
