I've failed at everything I have ever tried.
Failing at it's best

I've failed at everything I have ever tried.

I have failed at literally everything I have ever tried.

It's no joke. I can honestly think back to every single job I've had, every college course I took, every new sport I've tried... I failed.

*** at first***

Starting anything new is so hard. I remember when I started my own first recruiting position and they told me that I had to reach out to people and talk to them about IT. My first question was, "What is IT?".  And when I had deciphered that, I quickly learned enough acronyms to make a few cold calls...(that was back in the day before we had e-mail...).  After SEVERAL failed attempts, I finally scheduled a Network Manager. This poor guy must've thought I was an idiot. I wasn't, I just hadn't learned. I asked him about nodes and daisy chains and network routers, all the things that my leaders had told me to ask. He stormed out... MAD... because those questions were 'beneath' him.  You see, he was a manager of people who did those things. But I didn't know.... I hadn't learned that yet.

Fast forward to today, I launched my business about 9 months ago and I've failed at many things I have attempted during that time. I've made some people mad for wanting to tell them about my business. I've given some not so great advice to my customers. I've even recruited the wrong kind of people. But I didn't know... I hadn't learned that yet.

There isn't one of us out there today who hasn't tried something new. My guess is you probably failed the first few times you tried as well. Learning, growing, expanding, stretching... That's the key to success.

I'm growing my LinkedIn skills these days as well. I'm looking to connect with like minded individuals who want to network and grow. I would love to know how you are using LinkedIn to grow your business.

Hi, Tara Owens. I try to create a high-value post at least once a week on Wed morning, when it's most likely to be noticed. I write about a range of business and technical topics about which I've gained expertise over the past 30 years. I also write articles on Medium and promote them here on LinkedIn, including my new "Look, Fuckers" no-punches-pilled Medium publication, targeting a primarily technical (and therefore culpable) audience. All this writing over the past 18 months has resulted in a lot of "followers" (not the reason I'm doing this and something I'm pretty uncomfortable with) and inbound contacts from prospects, as well as establishing myself as a credible source of information. Hope this is helpful.

Your story is an inspiration for me. I feel like I am constantly picking myself up. Thank you for showing me that even the Great Ones feel it too!
