I've eaten every meal at a restaurant for 4 weeks

We often have a hard time explaining what we teach in?Awaken Your Nutrition.

But after consuming almost every single meal at a restaurant or takeout for the past four weeks,?I've cultivated deeper appreciation for?just how powerful this information is that I wish everyone knew.

Many still think?we?just?promote some rigid diet for losing weight. Nope.

We teach nutrition science:

  • the macronutrient and caloric composition of food
  • how to create blood sugar friendly meals that keep you energized and full for hours with food you actually like
  • when to eat certain foods and meals for optimum performance and hormone health, etc.

But we also teach you how to?interpret the signs and signals of?the body (bio-feedback) in response to what you are eating and other inputs like exercise, self talk, workload, and more.

Plus, how to?take?all of that knowledge that you practice at home in a more controlled environment and?apply?it on the go!?

Having a?foundational knowledge of nutrition science, a practiced structure of how to eat optimally, and a fine-tuned connection to?the?body is essential for allowing flexibility when you travel for nearly 4 weeks straight like I just did.

And here?is the aftermath...

I'm still in the same 5-pound range per usual.?

Here's what I do when I travel:

I consume primarily lean protein and low carb, high fiber veggies for each meal, assuming fat was used in most cooking preparation

Then, I strategically manage my intake of additional fats and complex carbs.

I?am able to estimate the macronutrient and caloric impact of various foods on-the-go now?because I spent?time tracking my food intake for a few months.

I can look at almost any common food and tell you a ballpark estimate of how many calories it has, how many carbs, fats, proteins, fiber, etc.

Now it's ingrained. I can't un-know it or un-see it.

I can do the same thing for menu items just based on descriptions and cooking preparations (fried vs. sautéed vs. steamed vs. grilled).

Also, I took a de-load week off of strength training. It was GLORIOUS! I felt stronger and more energetic than ever when I trained again. If you can time a de-load week during vacation, it’s pretty magical.

Because I normally do our strength training classes 3 times per week, my type 2 muscle mass is already built and hard to lose. This keeps the metabolism (BMR) high when at rest.

But just because I didn’t intentionally exercise doesn’t mean no movement.

If anything, I was more active throughout the days while traveling as opposed to doing a workout at home and sitting a lot.

I walked. A lot. Sometimes 14k+ steps. We rode bikes and horses. We swam. We played.

All of this combined allowed me to maintain my weight and health with ease and be fully present to enjoy traveling to a new places!


And you know what?

If I came home 5 pounds heavier, I wouldn’t worry one bit. I’d just get right back into my routine and trust the process.

That's how confident I am in the knowledge I have as are our clients and coaches.

You will never reach a finite place of “achievement” with your body and health.

Your body is always adapting and changing.

Making peace with the fact that you will be repeating the same habits required for health and fitness, over and over, in every environment, for days, weeks, years, and decades actually takes the pressure off… because there is no rush when you’re in this game for life.

This is monumental for me for so many reasons...?

I went from scared to ever travel? - even though it's my heart's calling - because I was always feared gaining weight...

...to creating safety in my body by?empowering myself with knowledge about how to eat in a balanced way in any environment.?

I no longer fear dining out. I actually look forward to it and know how to navigate menus like a pro.

We have developed a tried and true, results-driven system to help you succeed in every and any environment, from traveling?internationally to living full-time in a camper van to surviving Burning Man.?
