I've done enough

What a week it has been for everyone. There has been little that's been ordinary this week. For me, it's been about adjusting to a new reality of working from home, running classes online, and participating in meetings (and even a conference) via platforms I'd never used before (Google Hangouts, Zoom and Microsoft Teams). This is bound to be disruptive and unsettling - as is any change.
It's certainly had an impact on my productivity. It would be easy to feel a sense of defeat in the circumstances. To feel a loss of control. To compare with others and think 'why can't I do more', or even to compare with the past and think 'why can't I still do as much as I did last week?'.
But we've got to give ourselves, and each other, a break. This is not normal. I'm going to do what I can. So should you. No more than that. I'm not expecting my work rate, or anyone's work rate, to be as normal.
Right now I'm focusing on what I have done - not on what I haven't done. So today (Friday) I got up early, I went for a run, I helped our children get breakfast and ready for school, I took part in two meetings (by Zoom) and finished a journal article (which had already been given an extension). There are lots of things I haven't done (seriously, lots). But I'm focusing on what I have done.
I've done enough. And so have you! Now let's give each other a break and have a good weekend.
