I've completed my 6 months mentorship program under WIRA.

Plutarch once said “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”?For me, this verse pretty much means a form of self-actualization where one is seeking originality and truth to uncover one’s own true potentials. The way to do so often comes in the form of mentorship with someone who can help you uncover your potentials and strengths. ?On May 2022, I have officially completed a 6 months duration of 1-to-1 mentorship program organized by Women In Recruitment Asia (WIRA) and was fortunate to be under the tutelage of an inspiring leader Victoria Bethehelm. ?Over the course of 6 months, Victoria has help guided me and given the inspiration I need to overcome some of my biggest self-sabotaging moments in life.

Much of my recent success and ability to change is credited to this once-a-month session with her. During our 6 months stint, we worked on tracking progression surrounding these 4 pillars:

·????????How to build confidence, network, and knowledge to thrive in a new desk,

·????????How to show consistency in work and manage time despite juggling with many hats,

·????????How to be unafraid of voicing opinions and trying out new solutions,

·????????How to differentiate yourself against others who are in the field you are in.

Our mentorship journey comes with commitment from both parties. From my role as a mentee, I have to come out with the topics to discuss at least 2 days before the arranged session. This form of exercise is very similar to journaling. While I don’t write journal on a daily basis, I do on a weekly basis revisit my action plans and the impact it has on my role. So, whenever we tackle on a specific problem, I made a commitment not just to Victoria but also to myself to improve my service and capacity as a business partner to my clients and as an employee to the company. In doing so, I work with the determination of trying new solutions that we both have agreed that I should try on.

Victoria has on her hand fulfilled her role very well as a mentor. Through my engagement with her, I did not find any difficulty in voicing out my failures and insecurities. She gave time and space for me to articulate my situations and what troubles I have. She further dwells into the problems by giving open probe questions that made me reflect the causation of these issues. Then, she work with me to find solutions that I can try on for the next 30 days. Often times many mentee may find that a mentoring program is on restricted to work related issues. That is not the case with how I find my sessions with Victoria. ?It was like speaking with a friend who does no generalize problem but rather was there to celebrate your success and help you pull you out of the rut you are stuck in. Perhaps due to some similarity in interests and experience we had, I find the sessions much less rigid and more personable.

In having share this, I appreciate the founder of WIRA, Andrea Ross for creating this mentorship program. Our director from JAC, Kirsty for signing us with with WIRA. Would recommend this to anyone enjoy the process of improvement.
