I've been building something new

Over the past 6 months, I’ve been working on formalising my career coaching & development support.

Today, I’m excited to announce the launch of OnUpBeyond .

A big thank you to everyone who’s encouraged me to do this ??.

Particularly to all of you who I’ve coached 1:1 over the years. It’s been a privilege to watch your careers flourish.

?? Let me start by explaining why I’ve been building this and what I’ve been building.

[TL;DR - simply check out www.onupbeyond.com and register your interest for free]

Why I’ve been building this.

About 18 months ago, I had a life-changing conversation with someone (you know who you are) who said something along the lines of:

“Rich. I don’t think you realise that you’re the world’s expert on career development in and after consulting / big4 finance. Things that are obvious to you, are only obvious because of your weird experience (having trained at McKinsey, been a freelance consultant and then spent 15+ years supporting 4,000+ organisations to hire & develop people with a consulting / finance background). They’re not obvious to the rest of us! Have you ever considered becoming a coach?”

I reflected. Then made a change.

I’d always welcomed people messaging me with questions. I made a point of always responding with my advice. And did the occasional call / meeting, when I had time between building movemeon & being a dad to 3 young kids!

But from that day forward, I decided that I would say “yes” to the next 15 people who messaged me asking if I could coach them - in a more in depth way than responding to messages. I did that in the first 6 months of this year.

Coaching the 15.

Working with those 15 coachees was a fantastically rewarding experience.

It allowed me to spot the common pain points where I could help people. And also identify areas where my network could help (e.g, how to find the right coach for personal or leadership development support). I was really happy to receive great feedback.

The problem was, that my coachees started to refer me to friends & colleagues.

And the problem with 1:1 coaching is that I’m limited (by my own time) in the number of people I could support. This time limitation leads to 1:1 coaching with any senior expert (not just me) becoming prohibitively expensive - also a problem.

So I started to say “no” to the referrals and started to create something that could support more people, more affordably.

What I’ve been building & how it will help you.

I’ve created an ecosystem for career development, specifically for current and former consultants and big4 finance professionals. It’s called OnUpBeyond .

Helping you at every career stage.

It’s designed to be helpful to you at every career stage i.e,

  • “On” - careers goals & plans, making successful moves, negotiating compensation etc.
  • “Up” - coaching & training to succeed in your current role / in a new promotion, or develop a particular skill etc.
  • “Beyond” - making a successful career pivot, inspiration to start something totally new etc.

We will support professionals directly and also work with organisations (e.g, L&D departments & CPOs) looking for coaching providers to work with their colleagues.

What does the help look like?

It spans 4 areas:

1. Coaching & coach matching.

  • I’ve pulled together a global network of coaches. People with great track records specifically supporting professionals with a consulting or big4 finance background.
  • They’ll be joining me for webinars.
  • We’ll also offer a coach matching service to solve the problem of “how to find a great coach who’s also a great match for my character”.

More details on our coaching page here .

2. Courses / Programs.

  • Building on the advice that my 1:1 coachees found most valuable, I’ve put together my own program for career progression.
  • I’m also collaborating with experts who are building group coaching programs on a range of personal development topics spanning different seniorities (e.g, leadership to management). These programs are normally only accessible within the largest, best funded organisations and we recognise the value in making them more accessible.

More details on our courses page here .

3. Community.

  • My Roundtables initiative puts you in a curated peer group of ~8 people in similar roles but in non-competing businesses. Come together, share experiences & learn. Swap stories, ideas & challenges.
  • The online platform we've built will host newsfeeds, discussion forums etc.

More details on our community page here and roundtables page here .

4. Resources.

  • OnUpBeyond will be the hub for all the resources (interviews, data based benchmarks, tips & tricks etc) I create and
  • Other resources I recommend and know that people find helpful.
  • We'll record our webinars and make these accessible too.
