??ITUC Newsletter – September 2024?? ?? For Democracy at global institutions + #WDDW
International Trade Union Confederation - ITUC
The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) is the global voice of the world’s working people.
From this month, we will bring the ITUC For Democracy campaign to the heart of one of the world's most important institutions: the United Nations. At the UN General Assembly and the Summit of the Future we will advance the demands of working people calling for greater accountability within global institutions.
Such accountability is a crucial step towards countering the global threat to democracy posed by the lobbying power of large corporations. An ITUC report this month will expose the corporate assault on democracy and demonstrate how reformed global institutions that are more responsive to the needs of working people, can play a pivotal role in halting these attacks on democracy and delivering a New Social Contract
To mark the International Day of Democracy, we will take a closer look into the data produced by the ITUC Global Rights Index. Our analysis highlights the positive correlation between resilient democracies and trade union rights.
Also this month, in observance of International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons we will call for the resources spent on maintaining these abhorrent weapons to be redirected towards social spending. For the World Day for Decent Work we will continue this vital demand, as all workers deserve both peace and democracy.
