As we prepare for the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, we have launched the #TimeFor8 campaign to promote our demands for sustainable development driven by decent work and social justice. We have produced about the SDGs and why they are important.

Even though ITUC affiliates have achieved great results in advancing the SDGs, there is an urgent need to address the stagnation and regression in SDG progress. This means investing in SDG 8 (on sustainable growth and decent work) to accelerate progress in other areas. A key demand of the ITUC’s For Democracy campaign is accelerating progress towards the SDGs and beyond, to revive democratic multilateralism to reflect the interests of working people.

The global union movement will be present at the G20 in Brazil pushing for concrete measures to realise a New Social Contract for working people. Our demands, published here, include decent job creation targets to track progress across G20 presidencies, Just Transition strategies negotiated with social partners and investment in the care economy as a public good.

Finally, last month ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle met the head of the group drafting an international treaty on corporate accountability, which is crucial to address the power and impact of transnational corporations on the human rights of millions of working people.
