Harald Walter Azmann : "One of my favorite insights that I've already had many years ago, was that everyone's life is the hardest for them. It makes absolutely no sense to try to compare grief or pain. But lots of people in my line of activity, so to speak, are doing that. As if their pain was greater than somebody else's pain. Or their activity or charity was more important than somebody else's. And if they donated to something or did something together with another charity, then they might have less donations for themselves.

This is all very silly and it's part of the mindset that even makes the world that we have today the way it is. Because it's not some kind of aliens or unchangeable structure on this planet that we are suffering from. In other words, nobody is forcing us to live the way we do. This is all self-inflicted.

WE have made the life we have today this way. And we are just, as a collective and ever since the Industrial Revolution, coming to the pinnacle of realizing that the last hundred years of human life on this planet – while they were interesting, and while we're never given answers about what's going to happen in the future, so there's no guilt involved in that, we live by trial and error – but as humanity we are finding out that this life that we have now is unsustainable, not only for the planet, not only for nature, but also for our emotional wellbeing.

Gina Gardiner & Friends with Harald Walter Azmann, Founder and CEO of A Chance for Happiness Foundation and now World Mental Health Forum, on World Mental Health Day October 10, 2023 ? 30:00 mins

As I said in a podcast yesterday, if there is something that I would love for people to remember and take away from it, then that IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT. It's not your fault. If you are exhausted, if you are absolutely tired, if you think that you really want to go home, if you think you simply want to lose your mind and go mad, then go ahead, lose your mind and go mad. Just remember to come back. And if you want to give up, go ahead, give up. But maybe an hour later, or a day later, or after a romantic weekend of giving up together, you come back and say: You know, I still want to know what's around the next bend.

Fact is, the very mindset that took us into the jungle that we are in right now is not going to take us out of it. In other words, medication and therapy and health systems alone will not make any change to how we experience life on a personal level today, unless new measures, new laws, new conditions are based on a change of mind. And that change of mind, and it's not just me saying it, has to be that the overriding idea regarding human life on this planet is no longer about profit, but a new definition even, if we have to come up with one.

I mean, we have a charter of human rights. Why shouldn't we have a new definition of what we want human life on this planet to feel like and to be like, and we can even update it every year as we go along because, as I said, we learn by trial and error. And if that is part of a country's constitution, like it is in Bhutan for example – they do not just have a gross national product but they also have a gross happiness product, and it's in the constitution, and the laws in Bhutan are based on the idea of 'what is the collective happiness of our people? Are we actually enjoying life and THEN we are more productive?' That's when I think change will happen.

Gina Gardiner: I can only hope that it happens soon, because I believe that we are so out of alignment with being ourselves, and there's a lack of recognition that how we live our lives has an impact on other people. And I think there's got to be a decision that we collectively take, that we need to look after ourselves and one another, but not in a selfish way. And that maybe, and I've heard this term used a few times, rather than in a profit–led business world, we need to live in a purpose–led business world. Which doesn't mean that you can't make profits. Because in my experience, when you look at businesses holistically and when you bring kindness and compassion into business, then businesses actually do far better in the medium and long term." Margot Azmann and I are happy to share that we have officially started our new positions as Founders and CEOs of World Mental Health Forum. Trauma (Greek) means wound. I have a wound. So do you, many of them. And what are we going to do about it??https://lnkd.in/er3Bh8BQ

The main and closing session of Beacon | The Power of One ? A Chance for Happiness Foundation London Mental Health Week October 3-10, 2023 at historic Westminster Chapel included the equally historic announcement of a long overdue World Mental Health Forum.

A worldwide gathering from October 3–10 each year, with brilliant talks and discussions, workshops and seminars, music, art and fun, both online and in person wherever, just like the Olympic Games, we are invited to come. Next year, unless we are persuaded otherwise, we'll be in the U.S.

Applications to host the first?World Mental Health Forum 2024?are invited as of right away and if you wish to participate and present your work to a worldwide audience, you are welcome to get in touch at?[email protected]. We look forward to getting to know you and what you have to say. Our response is never "no" but "how can we make it happen?"

Against all odds, against all handicaps, against the chamber of horrors we call history, man has continued to dream and to depict its opposite. That is what we have to do. We do not escape into philosophy, psychology, and art – we go there to restore our shattered selves into whole ones. —Ana?s Nin

It was such a pleasure to talk to you on the show Harald Walter Azmann on such an important topic. There is a need for fundamental change, we need visionaries such as yourself to make each of us stop and think how we can make a difference on a day by day basis. Thank you!!

I think this is a very honest way to look at the world we currently live in. We should be asking ourselves how we can best serve others -before ourselves. We have become very insular in our outlook, which cannot be good for anyone’s mental health. People need people, people need people to care, if you have faith then maybe your faith can carry you through. But I still think it takes a village to make you, to teach you to grow and become the person you are supposed to be. We need global healing that’s for sure.??
