It's not about the words

Here is my new model of the 5 levels of communication. What can you understand from this diagram as to how it relates to where you're communicating from? How does it relate to the iceberg model of influence?

"It's not about the words and it's not not about the words"

When I was a kid I loved the song More than words by a band called Extreme. Asides from the fact that I fancied them, I was very touched by the idea that it's often not about the words that are used in a communication.

What do I mean by this?

The top level of WORDS is the attempted solution.

The bottom level of SOUL PAIN is the source of the problem.

When you're in a conversation, are you predominantly playing in the top level of words? This can sound like, "he said she said' and can occur like being on a communication roundabout with no clear exit.

What if the exit to the solution point is to go to the source of the problem and address it sincerely? I suggest that once you've distinguished WHAT the problem ACTUALLY IS, the solution is standing right next to it.
