International Women's Day is a special day of celebration for all women's social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments. For many of us, it serves as a reminder to speed up gender parity.
Women's voting right has been a significant milestone in the advancement of women's rights and gender equality in the last century.??
Women in the UK were granted the right to vote in stages, with the first major milestone being the Representation of the People Act 1918. This act granted voting rights to women aged 30 and over who met certain property qualifications, as well as to all men aged 21 and over. However, it wasn't until the Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 1928 that women were granted equal voting rights with men. This act lowered the voting age for women to 21, bringing it in line with men's voting age, and removed property qualifications for both men and women.?
Since then, progress has been made in various areas, such as education, employment, politics, and social rights.
And some examples of progress made since women gained voting rights include:
Despite this progress, there are still many challenges facing women, such as gender-based violence, unequal pay, and limited access to political power. Therefore, continued efforts are needed to achieve full gender equality and ensure that women have the same opportunities as men to reach their full potential.?
Subjectively there have been many initiatives and ongoing efforts to address these issues and create more equitable conditions for women in many industries.?
Presumably, in order to explore the issues in #tech and #web3 industries we can ask the simple question:?

We wouldn’t need to ask any statistical company for the response as everyone knows that the tech industry has historically been male-dominated, with women facing significant barriers to entry and advancement.?
However, I clearly can see that in recent years, there has been a growing movement of women in tech and Web3 who are challenging gender bias and advocating for greater representation and equality.?
Yesterday I attended an The Policy Liaison Group on ESG the #Metaverse and #web3 meeting In partnership with the UKIIC at the House of Lords dedicated by Baroness Manzila Uddin to an important topic “In Dialogue with Women Leaders”
Many valuable points have been discussed and I’ve noticed the tendency in many areas that through iteration, women in tech are actively working to create a more inclusive and equitable industry for future generations.?
By challenging traditional practices now and creating new products and services that address the needs of diverse communities, I can see that we are paving the way for a more diverse and innovative industry that benefits everyone.??

My favourite Web3 space is still in its early stages of evolution and the dynamics are still shaping with a clear focus on growth and development in a broad range of technologies, including blockchain, cryptocurrencies, decentralized finance, and more. These technologies have the potential to revolutionize industries and create new opportunities for individuals and businesses alike.?
One major issue facing the tech industry is the perception of ‘tech’ as an industry that has been subject to gendered biases right from an early age. Figures from the #wise campaign suggest that only 9% of female graduates studied a core #stem subject in 2018. A recent 普华永道 study also indicates that only 3% of women say a career in technology is their first choice career.
To address this particular issue, it is important to create awareness and investment in the early part of the talent pipeline to encourage women to consider tech as a viable career option. This can be done by encouraging STEM at the secondary school level, including coding courses within the core curriculum or providing extensive career advice that explores the diversity of roles within the tech industry. Academic partnerships and interaction from tech firms in the education sector can be a major breakthrough in realising this vision in reality.
However, despite this, the gender gap and the lack of women in the tech talent pipeline continue to be major problems. According to Tech Nation , a government-funded growth network, nearly 9% of the UK workforce, or 3 million people, are employed in the UK tech industry, but only 26% of those in the tech workforce are women.?
Particularly, women are often driven out of the tech sector due to burnout, gendered biases, toxic aspects of “bro culture” and a lack of work-life balance. These factors together are ultimately driving down the retention rate of women in tech. This is a challenge that needs to be addressed urgently, and I’m happy to see that many tech leaders are now mindful of the age-old problems facing the industry.?
One way in which I can see women in tech pushing back against gender bias is through iteration or the process of continuously revising and refining products or processes.?
In the tech industry, iteration is a fundamental part of the development process, with teams working to refine products and services through constant feedback and improvement.?
Women in tech are using this iterative mindset to challenge gender bias in various ways. For example, women-led startups are creating products and services that address the specific needs and challenges faced by many women and girls, such as period-tracking apps, breastfeeding support platforms, and femtech products as well as positive games.?
I also can see how women in some tech and Web3-focused companies are also iterating on traditional hiring and management practices to make them more inclusive and equitable. This includes implementing blind hiring practices that remove identifying information from resumes to reduce unconscious bias, providing mentorship and support to women in the industry, and creating diverse and inclusive teams.?
Alleviating this potential, it is essential to ensure that women not only in the UK but in all countries are adequately represented and included in the great opportunities that Web3 can offer. However historically the tech industry as a whole has struggled with issues of diversity and inclusion and amalgamation of both has been a far-distant dream.?
I’m sure that we shouldn’t give up trying to talk about an experience just because other people are unable to relate to it or it has been made to think that it is the normal course of the industry to be directed to veining off the mark.?
My most desirable vision for many women in the Web3 space is that 2023 will become a special year when we are well-represented and have equal opportunities for success. This vision would involve a concerted effort to address the gender gap in the tech industry and to ensure that women have access to the resources, education, and support we need to succeed in the Web3 space.
In my opinion, one of the ways to achieve this vision would be to substantially create more avenues for women to learn and participate in the Web3 space. By creating a more welcoming and supportive environment for women, we can ensure that anyone is able to succeed and thrive in the Web3 space.??
This would involve initiatives such as #hackathons, #workshops, and #mentorship programs aimed at women. These programs would provide women with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the Web3 space.
