It's Not Too Late

I’ve loved visiting structures designed by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, but it wasn’t until recently that I learned about his life and the trajectory of his career.?

At 59 years old, his home was lost in foreclosure because he couldn’t afford his mortgage. People called him washed up; his wealthiest clients stopped hiring him. By 61, he was semi-retired and began lecturing and writing. Everyone had assumed his days as an architect were over.?

But starting at age 67, Wright entered the most productive years of his life.?

He came out of retirement and designed a private home in Western Pennsylvania called Fallingwater - what many believe is America’s most famous house.

At 70, he designed the campus of Florida Southern College (I’ve visited. It’s impressive.)?

He designed 21 houses in the year he turned 83.?

He built his first skyscraper at 89.?

And at 91, a week before he died, he visited the site of his last building: the famous, iconic Guggenheim Museum in New York City. I was there last March – and it’s an amazing structure.?

You’re never too old to learn, start, or create something new. It’s not too late. Never stop learning. Always keep improving, learning, trying, leading.?
