I want to talk about getting ready for the winter season and some things that you want to think about.??
You need to look into winterizing your home or cottage to avoid water pipes bursting and freezing as well? as avoiding ice damming in the roof. Make sure that you are taking care and? maintaining your properties to help to reduce the risk of loss.?
One thing you're going to want to make sure you get done is cleaning out your gutters and downs, because you don't want them to be clogged with the snow and ice.? You want to make sure that you've got good insulation in the attic area and that it's properly vented, so that you don't have the ice dam buildup and potentially cause water damage inside the home.
If you have a cottage Up North and you won’t be going to it all winter, you want to make sure that you've got the temperature set high enough so that water lines will not freeze, or drain the lines and turn water off and open the faucets just enough to allow them to breathe.
Whether at your home or at your cottage, make sure that any outdoor water spigots that are not insulated have the water supply turned off to them.? You can also cover them with an insulated cover to help prevent them from freezing.?
Another good idea is to have a temperature sensor.? There are new programs out there, like Ring, that have temperature sensors.? You then can tell if the temperature is off and the furnace has quit working, because temperature drops can cause water pipes to burst and freeze.???
These are all things that we can do to help protect ourselves and have a safe and hopefully warm winter.
