It's Time to Vote

On September 28, 2020, I sent the following email to the BlockWorks Group team. I believe the message holds true for those outside the company, so I've decided to share it here.

Whatever your politics, we can all agree this upcoming election is critical.

Team – 

Voting in the US is hard.

There are 50 states with 50 different systems. Nearly every other modern democracy holds elections on weekends or makes Election Day a national holiday, but not in America.

Let's look at what that does to voting:

Just over 36% of eligible voters showed up for the 2014 midterms, the lowest turnout in 72 years.

The 56% participation rate in 2016 puts us 26th among 32 developed nations in voter turnout.

The importance of this upcoming election can't be overstated, and we would like to do everything in our power to encourage you to vote. 

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd. If you plan on voting in-person, you can take as much time as you need to do this.

Before November 3rd, there are a few actions you should take:

1. Check your voter registration status here
2. If you're not registered yet, register to vote here
3. If you can't or don't want to vote in-person on Nov 3rd, request an absentee ballot here
4. Find your polling location here 

If you'd like to work the polls, you can sign up here. We'll be giving anyone who works the polls a paid day off.
