Woke up this morning to a message on my phone: SOFTWARE UPDATE iOS 16.6 is available for your iPhone and ready to install.
This got me thinking. If we need to do periodic updates to our phone and computer software so it operates at is highest efficiency and protection, why don't we do that with our brains and bodies so we operate at our highest efficiency and protection? The answer is pretty simple...no one tells us to do an update like Apple did this morning.
So how do we do an update to our Mental Operating System (MOS)? Guess what Human Resources...YOU are the notification message to your employees. You are the engineers that create the update behind the scenes and then roll it out to the employees. You create the widgets that sit on the home screen of an employee's life.
As you are creating your latest MOS update, consider these points as part of the items that need to be updated:
- Mental Health Support: Offer access to mental health resources such as counseling services, Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), and workshops on stress management and mindfulness.
- Training and Development: Provide opportunities for professional and personal development through workshops, courses, and training programs. This can help employees build new skills and boost their confidence.
- Flexible Work Arrangements: Consider flexible work schedules and remote work options when feasible, as this can help reduce stress and improve work-life balance.
- Recognition and Appreciation: Acknowledge employees' efforts and achievements regularly. Recognition can boost morale and foster a positive work environment.
- Encourage Breaks and Time Off: Encourage employees to take regular breaks during work hours and use their vacation time to recharge and avoid burnout.
- Promote Work-Life Balance: Set clear boundaries for work hours and expectations to prevent overworking and support a healthy balance between work and personal life.
- Physical Well-being: Offer wellness programs, fitness classes, or initiatives that promote healthy eating and physical activity.
- Encourage Communication: Create an open and supportive culture where employees feel comfortable discussing their challenges and seeking help when needed.
- Provide Resources on Resilience: Offer resources on building resilience, coping with stress, and maintaining mental well-being during challenging times.
- Lead by Example: Ensure that leaders within the organization prioritize their own well-being and model healthy behaviors for their teams.
Our world is moving so fast and we need the help and support to be the best we can be for our employers, families, friends, and ourselves. Promoting a positive and supportive work environment is crucial for the well-being and productivity of employees. By prioritizing mental health and overall well-being, organizations can create a healthier and more engaged workforce with a healthier bottom line.
