Temperatures are rising and time is running out. Climate change is happening now, and millions of people are dealing with its effects on a daily basis. Yet conversations about financial health and climate change — which, let’s be honest, were slow to begin in the first place — are still struggling to move from insights to action.

SaverLife members, and millions like them, are residing in communities that are underserved by federal programs and disproportionately affected by the ongoing effects of climate change. They can’t afford to wait any longer for climate conversations to understand and prioritize their needs. Nor can we as leaders in the financial health sector further delay taking steps to fight for their future.

I get it. This is an overwhelming issue and it is hard to know where to start or how to make an impact. But this is the fight of our lives, and none of us get to sit on the sidelines.?

At SaverLife, we’re looking to the intersection of climate change and financial health for answers: not just to understand how this intersection directly affects our members’ lives, but to determine what we will do about it. We continue to build momentum through our initiative, The Downpour.

We just wrapped up a survey that explores how SaverLife members are experiencing the financial impacts of climate change and how effective current solutions are in reaching households living on low-to-moderate incomes. Over 1,600 members nationwide completed this survey, sharing their thoughts, opinions, and realities on the shifting climate. To propel their perspectives into national conversations, we’re now collaborating with a team of expert climate advisors to identify the most actionable insights and publish these findings.

In the coming months, be on the lookout for the findings we publish as a result of this climate survey. You’ll also see a webinar invitation to learn more about how the financial health field can take action on climate-related issues. We are also launching a series for SaverLife members that provides timely and actionable content on consumer and worker protections, access to climate-related resources, and financial recovery after severe weather events.

And if you’re now asking yourself, what can I do to help advance this work? Commit to spreading the word. Commit to absorbing new findings. Sign up to get updates straight to your inbox the moment we share them. And share this news widely. Reach out to us with ideas to explore or questions to be asked. The only way we’ll get the momentum we need to make real change is if we’re all in this together.
