It's Time To Take My Hat Off

When you lose a parent you join an exclusive club. Nobody understands it until they join the club.

Our parents affect our lives much more than we can ever imagine. They are part of our own Board of Directors and have a tremendous influence on our business and life decisions. It could be buying a car, a house, a piece of property, forming an LLC, a relationship, or the purchase of a second home. What would my Dad think? Would he approve? Would he disapprove? Would he have another plan or recommendation?

Ten years ago today I lost my first parent, my Dad. I think about how lucky people are that haven't joined the exclusive club. I mean come on, everyone aspires to be in an exclusive club; A steering committee, a special task force, or even a support group. They are the sum of your accomplishments and the respect you have gained.

Whether we realize it or not, our parents are the little bird in our ear all these years. So if you have the privilege of working with a parent, you are lucky. If you can go home and talk about your victories today, you are blessed. Or how about kicking back and treasure the memories of your parents and the positive influence they have had on you, hats off to you.

It's time to take my hat off.
