??It’s Time to Spring Clean Your Finances

As I write this, trees are beginning to bloom, 60 degree temps are taking over New Jersey, and we finally have the sun sticking around longer each day. All the signs that spring is just around the bend. So, that means it’s time to do a little Spring cleaning on our finances.?
Reviewing your finances can be daunting-so pour yourself a coffee (or glass of wine), light a candle, and create an atmosphere where you are relaxed and comfortable. So many of us think money needs to be stressful because we don’t know any different. But when I meet with clients at night so many of them come in comfy clothes with a glass of wine in hand to make the experience fun and enjoyable. You can too.?
A reminder that as your go on this Spring-cleaning journey, there’s little that you can do to change the past financial decisions you made. This time is meant to observe and figure out what we want to do better in the coming seasons.?
To start- I want you to review your financial goals both short and long term. Some of these goals (especially short-term ones) you may have already accomplished this year. Or on the flipside they may no longer be relevant. December 2023 you may have wanted to buy a new car. But three months into the new year you realize that you would rather save those dollars towards the long-term goal of buying a second home and hold off a few more years on that car upgrade.?
Your goals will change. If they don’t this season, they might in the future. The mission is to build your financial plan in a way that works for real life. Our goals are meant to change as we grow and evolve as people.?
Part two of this cleanup is to look at your finances. Take a deep breath, it’s going to be ok. We need to take a look at how we are tracking these goals to understand what changes need to be made for the rest of year. Look at areas like your retirement accounts, savings towards individual goals, and how you are spending your funds. Are you tracking towards your goals? Is the spending you are doing bringing you joy and aligned with your values??
If you find that you aren’t tracking towards your goals or aren’t fully sure how to assess them, you aren’t alone. Nobody teaches us these things in school or the workplace. Use my link below to schedule and intro call today we can talk through building and implementing a financial plan that is custom tailored to you and your ever changing lifestyle. And yes, feel free to bring a cup of coffee or glass of wine to our call.
