It's Time to Part Ways.. And That's OK!
As a person who is well into their career, having multiple employers and having hired and grown many teams, I now better understand why people and companies no longer work together.
One of the two or both outgrow each other. And that is ok!?
Be real with yourself and don’t stay when you know you’ve outgrown the company. Same goes true with a company, if you’re changing and growing, don’t assume that all your employees want to take the growth path with you.??
Communicate with each other and take time to self-reflect on what’s important to you.?Look at the future of the company and identify if it fits with the future you desire. Be real with yourself and don’t stay with the company because you think, “I’m not a quitter”! ?If you’re an Achiever like me, you tend to want to stick things out, however it can hurt you more than you think.??

This might be the hardest work you have done, to figure out what you want to do next.?You get to spend a lot of time self-reflecting, which can be hard.?So, it might be time to ask for help to discern all these thoughts in your head and that is when a career coach or professional coach can help sift through all these thoughts.
Give yourself permission to invest in yourself, your future, and your health!?I’ve never invested more in myself until the past few years, and I wish I would have done it earlier in my career.??The cool thing about investing in myself; my family sees it and my daughter is now investing in herself at the ripe age of 19!??This is my “why” and she encourages me to keep working on the best version of myself so I can show up as my authentic self at work, with friends and at home.
I’m currently on a new career journey and being very contemplative of what’s next because I want to ensure that the next company I commit to, is the right one and fits me.
Enjoy the ride, it’s going fast and should be fun no matter what you do!

1 年Very insightful Susan. Here’s an article by Chris McChesney that I just read before reading this. I think it’s somehow related. https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/mcchesney4dx_entrepreneur-leaders-concerned-about-remote-activity-7032367784621731840-f1tI?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios

1 年Great advice as always, Susan! To further expand on this, for those who are experiencing a lay-off vs. a professional choice to move on, take time to exhale.

1 年It’s so important to take that time to rest and reflect. Too many of us jump from one role to the next without a break. When I think back to all the times employees said no to a later start date for a new job, it makes me wish I’d stood my ground and taken that time. Being independent now, I have to allow myself those breaks!

1 年Thanks for sharing this insightful post. It’s so important to take the time to self reflect. The work we do should inspire us, drive us forward and it’s important to take the time to make sure we align the company’s future path and that they align us. Life is too short to spend feeling stuck with a company or work that doesn’t align with our growth and passions. It takes courage and self awareness to take a step back and assess and know when we aren’t on the right path. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and journey with us.
