Annual appraisals – outdated and unnecessary
The annual appraisal is a practice dating back to the middle of the 20th century – a time when work was stable, predictable and repetitive. Very little changed in a year.

I worked for some awesome companies (in sales and marketing and project management), My experience with HR departments was not good! I hope they have improved as well.

I'd would prefer real time feedback next to a more slim yearly report. The system should also foresee both ways feedback. A high dynamic work environnent implies that the level of competencies may differs between managers and managed people. Thus it may well be as important to energize and motivate the manager to be more productive or less counterproductive.

7 年Melanie Fantin Controversial in Global Companies, some cultures are especially fond of the annual PDA. I advocate the 'no surprises' approach i.e. an employee should never be surprised by anything brought up in a PDA - if there is a performance issue then it should be done in real time (good or bad)... Happy to start a 'ban the PDA' movement
