It's time to move to digital outdoor advertising (OOH Advertising)

The corporate world's behavior has changed drastically over the past couple of years. Twenty years ago majority of the brands in the world were praising traditional media as the key to building brands around the world. However, with the invasion of digital media and corporate sustainability, corporate executives are very much concerned about building brands and driving their brand promise to customers through sustainable communication means.


What made me write this article about digital outdoor advertising was, that in Sri Lanka, we see excessive amounts of hoardings and banners in major cities, pennants, and different types of physical materials are being used at retail stores and shopping malls.


Our environment is excessively impacted by single-use materials, and the waste that has accumulated due to single-use materials is increasing at an alarming. After all the advertising and communication concluded, these materials are not been disposed of in a proper way which impacts our environment.


This is why organizations and brands must think about using sustainable means to communicate about their brands. That's where digital outdoor advertising comes in in my personal opinion.


Digital outdoor advertising literally sounds exorbitant, yes it is. But, if we look at it from a long-term point of view, it is the more cost-effective and more eco-friendly way.


The benefits of using digital outdoor advertising are mentioned below,

  • The bright and vivid attention grabber.
  • Lower installation and maintenance costs (This is subjective based on the units to be utilized for advertising)
  • Creative message & and display – The sky is the limit!
  • Greater flexibility in scheduling and displaying advertisements.


This may sound overwhelming to some corporate executives when pitching digital outdoor advertising. We should look at it as more environmentally friendly and operationally efficient to make digital outdoor advertising more sustainable and cost-effective to make advertising and customer-centric communication more interesting and appealing.
