It’s time to GROW TF up...We get it, you have a right to be offended!

Before I start to triage the hit dogs hollering based on the title alone, let me clear some things up -??
If you’re easily offended,????here. Unfollow. Find someone safe to argue with because we’re here for discussion, not debate.?
Unnecessary drama and closed mindedness will be met with sincere disregard. Are we good? I will give you a minute. Great!?
?
We get it, you have a right to be offended…
You do! AND, we have a right not to care. Let’s just jump right in here.
2020 changed a lot of things for humanity; shifted rather.?
Most things should have been placed under a microscope and either adjusted or flat out removed.?
The ability to think freely -?
The ability to object and reject -?
The ability to have an unpopular opinion -?
If you aren’t unhinged and appalled with the masses, consider yourself a leper.?
If you read that with a look of confusion and disgust, similar to the meme below, CONGRATULATIONS we’re on the same page!!
?
Although the world has never been a “safe space”, it’s even more unsafe for free thinkers. I have conversations with leaders and business owners, often. It’s kinda “my thing”, right??
?And, in those effective exchanges I consistently hear, “Well, we’re scared to say anything because people are so sensitive!”
?
?
?
It’s crazy, right? Or, is it?
Honestly, you’ve never been able to just say and do WHATEVER you wanted to when humans were involved.
Well, there was that one time - a few times, throughout history, where humans were bought, sold, abused, neglected, treated as less than and murdered just because.
However, outside of that blip on the radar that we keep trying to remove from our educational curriculum, we’ve never been able to just engage with others however we have chosen to.
We’ve never been allowed to stand in pulpits, at podiums or in large arenas and simply spew whatever thoughts came to mind with zero regard for backlash or impact.

That’s not the American way…..?
If you’re me and you actually engage social media and any news outlets, you read that with the sarcasm it was intended AND several occurrences came to mind.
We’re currently reaping the “benefits” of seeds planted.
This sensitivity culture, is our own fault.?
And, they have a right to be offended.?
People have a right to feel however they want to about whatever they want to.?
My mere existence and accomplishment offends daily; I sleep well.
I’m sure you can think of similar situations for your life - may the peaceful rest of whomever/whatever you believe in, fall upon you.
God got me!?
And, BOOM - someone read that, and is ready to throw their electronics!!!!!
I’m writing this in every sarcastic and condescending tone I can muster.
That’s to help you digest the responsibility that we keep trying to abdicate - we’re walking on egg shells in the workplace because of the culture we passively and aggressively nurtured.
We should have never been a party to an environment filled with human beings who were empowered to disgrace and disregard other humans.
This isn’t about rightful punishment for actual crimes; this is about superiority complex’s that have backfired.
To create the equitable work environments and communities that we claim to strive for, we have to first own that this is our mess then start to hold those who consistently perpetuate and uphold these unacceptable behaviors, accountable.
Until we start to SHIFT what we stand for publicly into our homes (you read that right, sit with it), and actually start to live our values out loud, we’re never going to be the united nation we claim or create an environment where we aren’t consistently offended.
Read this how you need to. Sit in every feeling. Play your part.
If what you live at work, school, on line, isn’t what you live at home….
You unfortunately do not have a right to be offended; you have a right to bear responsibility for the rest of us having to walk on eggshells.
So, what are you going to do boo??
Businesses are suffering because employees listen from a hurt space and leadership is struggling to engage.
Constructive criticism, coaching and accountability are required in order for businesses to thrive.?
Well, it looks like it starts, at home.

1 年This article hits hard! It’s a constant work in progress to balance respectful discourse with passionate views sometimes, withholding that expectation of changing the opposing opinion and rather just discussing and listening, but also holding strong. I also love your gritty writing, it’s always been my preferred style and has such an effect on the reader.
