Brian Olds, President of Black Speakers Network (BSN) shares 4 best practices to mentally prepare for the Fall season.
Fall is almost here and it one of my favorite times of the year. ??????(Yes, Apple cider will be on deck daily)
In Baltimore, it means that we have about 12 days of near-perfect weather before it becomes freezing cold again.??
Fall represents a season of change for nature and in our life. This year has been a year of extraordinary change for me in just about every area of life imaginable. (Weeks be like...????????????????)
As the leaves begin to change, the air gets crisp and days start to get shorter, I started reflecting on what this season represents. I realized that the word FALL itself is also a powerful reminder that change is necessary to make way for new growth:??
F - Forgive: It's tough to move into a new season of growth weighted down with the mental burden of anger towards others. If someone hurt or disappointed you, it is unfortunate but not a reason to slow down your growth. The only two things you have control over are your actions and your attitude. Forgive and move on.?
A - Accept: Be open to accepting new ways of doing things outside your comfort zone. Drive to a new city, eat new food, or talk to a new person. Shake up your humdrum routine and see what else life has in store for you. It's great to travel to foreign countries, but many of us have unexplored parts of our community within walking distance waiting to be discovered. ??
L - Learn (and take action): My biggest growth seasons have always immediately followed my biggest seasons of learning. I'm not talking about reading more books, listening to more podcasts and watching more TED talks. I mean taking the information you are learning and trying it out in your life to see what works for you (i.e. applied to learn). I believe it's better to read one chapter in one book the whole year but do something with the information than to read 100 books and have the same life this time next year. ??
L - Laugh: Life is too short not to enjoy the journey. Coming into this year, I declared that anything that cost me my peace is too expensive (and I mean it) I seek out things and people that make me smile, laugh and deposit joy into the world. Protect your peace at all costs. ??
Happy FALL???????
