It's Time to Assess the 1st Quarter of 2019

After enduring what has felt like an extended winter here in the northeast region of the country, it appears that spring has finally arrived...thank goodness! As the honey bees begin buzzing in preparation for their annual contribution to increasing the pollen count, allergy sufferers get ready...that includes me. On top of that, daylight saving time kicked in a couple of weeks ago and the new season of 'Billions' (love this Showtime series) is officially underway. Undoubtedly, spring is my favorite time of the year.
To that point, it's time for spring cleaning; however, I don't mean that in the traditional sense of grabbing a broom, bottle of Lysol and cleaning the house. Rather, I am talking about what I like to refer to as a 'spring level setting' checkpoint. Indulge me by scheduling time to reflect on the 1st quarter of 2019. In doing so, I highly recommend that you systematically evaluate the progress that you're making this year in terms of your personal and professional goals as well as the state of your key relationships.
As for yours truly, I was in the lab all day Saturday, March 30 diligently engaging in this process. As a result, the following are a few key questions that I contemplated and answered:
- What’s working?
- What needs a strategy adjustment?
- Which relationships should I better cultivate?
- Which relationships should I spend less time with?
- What book should I read next?
Additionally, I encourage you to seek out objective feedback from a mentor, trusted advisor or executive coach. It has been often said that it's difficult for an individual to recognize their blind spots; therefore, external feedback from a seasoned and battle-tested source can prove to be invaluable to one's growth. More and more, the further I travel on my journey, I see the value of meaningful ‘trusted’ external feedback and guidance. In other words, "Success leaves clues," said by Jim Rohn, the philosopher who has left an indelible legacy of time-proven principles and wisdom regarding strategies for personal development.
To conclude, the photo affixed to this post was captured while taking a leisurely stroll along the Hudson River. I find the view of the Manhattan skyline from the Jersey City and Hoboken side of the Hudson River breathtaking…do you agree?
As we prepare for April showers, I wish you a healthy and prosperous rest of 2019. Now...go find your greatness!
