It's about time

It's about time

Life has a way of throwing curveballs. Perhaps none was bigger for me than my mom’s battle with cancer, during which I became her primary caregiver.

This unintentional pause in my work created a natural opportunity for me to consider the next phase of my career. As the communications industry has shifted, my interests and passions shifted as well. With that in mind, I made the decision to stop running Felicity.?

Felicity means “to do things with ease,” “intense happiness,” and “the ability to find appropriate expression for one's thoughts.” Building a business wasn’t easy, but I definitely experienced intense happiness along the way, working with an amazing team, helping clients develop and share their stories.?

Back in 2011, a flexible, “brains not bricks” company was “virtually” unheard of. Over the past 12+ years, we re-imagined how, where and when a team could work, while challenging the convention of billable hours in our industry.

So, what’s next??

I have been reflecting a lot since my mom’s passing. If there’s one thing I learned through her experience, it is that time is our most precious resource. I’ve spoken to a lot of fellow business leaders, and it pains me to hear these common complaints:?

“I have trouble ‘turning off.’ There are just not enough hours in a day.”

“I have too many priorities. My to-do list is long and getting even longer.”

“I wish I could spend my time where I truly add value, and in alignment with my values.”

I was there once, too.?

I am a “recovering workaholic.”???

My journey from being a workaholic to achieving true work-life integration began when I was about to have my third baby. A few years into running Felicity, I was working all. the. time. This wouldn't be a matter of re-prioritizing or shuffling around my to-do list. If I was truly going to lasso my life, I needed to decide what I was going to STOP doing altogether.?

That baby just celebrated her 10th birthday, and in this time, I've been fine-tuning my ability to focus on the most valuable things to me, and to my business. In reflecting on what I wanted to do next, I realized I would love nothing more than to help others through the process of reclaiming their time, so they can reinvest it into what matters.

I was introduced to fellow trailblazer and recovering workaholic, Janet Winkler . Janet had had the same desire as me, but she'd already built some transformative programs based on insights curated from hundreds of interviews.

I am now excited to join forces with Janet, to bring you The Difference Lab .

The Difference Lab empowers teams and individuals to fiercely prioritize what drives business and personal value, by bravely subtracting what doesn’t.? This skill is called Intentional Subtraction.? It’s critical in an era where overwork and busywork are overtaking essential work.

Watch this space for updates, but in the meantime, if you want to learn more about how we can bring Intentional Subtraction to your team, drop me a line.
