It’s still January, right? And not too late to catch up on our 2024 happenings!

Last year was an exciting, productive and rewarding one for us. Here’s a brief recap from our Editorial Team:

Expanded Coverage of the Global South

  • Latin American History and Culture: We launched this initiative to preserve, digitize, and amplify Latin American and Latinx voices.
  • Africa Commons: Elizabeth and Stephen traveled to South Africa to engage with our advisors, librarians, digitization experts, and publishers.
  • West African Magazines: Our first resource dedicated to literature from the continent’s Western countries.
  • Oceania Commons: Our new initiative to collect, preserve, and disseminate critical research and information from Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. The first module, Oceania Policy, is now available, offering the largest grey-literature database for the region.
  • South Asia Commons: Expanded to include more than 500,000 items with guidance from our advisory board.
  • The Iran Society of India Archive: Our first fully sponsored database, offering unique perspectives on India and Iran.
  • New Features & Content: Coming soon, an AI-powered front end.

History and Living Archives

  • Accessible Archives moved to History Commons: Completed migration to a modern, high-functionality platform.
  • LGBTQ+ Social Justice and Culture: Launched a preservation and research archive focusing on social and spatial justice.
  • Updated Platform: We now index and preserve short-lived media formats such as zines, podcasts, videos, and blogs.

Applied Science Commons

  • Launch at Charleston Conference: New platform designed to index and preserve practical, scientific information.
  • Public Health and Social Care: Focus on frontline public healthcare and social policy.
  • Charleston Awards: Honored as the Best New Product and Most Impactful Product.

Grey Literature

  • Policy Commons: Now the world’s largest discovery service and repository of policy documents.
  • Expanded Definition: Including podcasts, blogs, and videos.
  • COIs Implementation: Added Content Object Identifiers to every item of grey literature we index.
  • 2025 Update: Major updates including new fields, impact functionality, and improved metadata.

Whew! Okay, so maybe not so brief. Thank you for taking the time to check in with Coherent. As always, we hope to hear from you with comments, questions, suggestions, requests, or anything else on your mind. Your thoughts are what’s most important to us.

With best wishes for a happy and successful 2025,

The Coherent Digital Editorial Team
