Mountain Minute #213: We Rarely We Do This
This morning, I was talking to one of the smartest people I know, my 100 Coaches colleague, Amanda Setili .
We were talking about this newsletter and the fact that while I am incredibly grateful to reach so many amazing people, I don't have a clear understanding of a.) why most people read this newsletter or b.) how I could be most helpful to them.
"Just ask them," said Amanda.
We talked some more. "Maybe I'll put a question at the end of a newsletter?" I offered.
"Nope," said Amanda. "Create a survey, and build a whole issue around it."
She explained that so many of us fail to ask our friends, colleagues, customers, partners and even family members: how can I be better at holding up my end of the bargain?
Wow. She's right.
I've been writing on LinkedIn since 2012. While I read every comment on every one of my posts, I've never before asked you, "How can I do better? How can I better support you?"

Today, I'm asking. I've created four questions on a Google Form, and I hope you will take a minute to answer them. Two of them are open-ended, which gives you the freedom to tell me anything you want me to know or to do differently.
I promise to read, study, ponder and learn from everything you tell me. I'm not some giant company using a survey to produce a lame customer satisfaction score. I am an actual human being who is trying to do a better job of enriching your life, even if that is only in a modest way every now and then.
This, by the way, is an idea you can steal and use in your own life. Ask your family members, friends or colleagues, "How can I do better?"
I know you are busy and it's tempting to skip my survey. All I can say is... rarely will you encounter a person more motivated to genuinely discover how you feel. I really, truly want to better understand what you are thinking.
With deep gratitude,

1 年I always ask my people, “how can I serve you?” This open-ended question will give you so much more information and insight. We are all imperfect humans- and that alone, connects us regardless of your beliefs.
