IT'S THE RAT RACE ...and no one wins.
It's a typical week again in Liza-land.
Hitting the gym before the birds open their eyes. Rushing back home, getting the tots ready for crèche, rushing to crèche to get to work on time. Hitting the proverbial grindstone with the High Performer axe and rushing out again once the sun starts touching the mountains; to again pick up the tots. Then "suicide" hour......bathing , feeding , bedtime stories, and finally "quiet" time after all has been done which really means falling asleep within 10 minutes of sitting down ( gone are the days of all night anything. Bed at 9 pm equates to "staying up late" in my world these days)
Monday to Friday pass , week after week , month after month in a whirlwind of career achievements, high commission checks , building an Empire , getting to do nice things and buying nice stuff.....yet ultimately fleeting and deceptive at best.
There is no space in the grave for any off it..…maybe my Dolce handbag – (I’ll fit that sucker in no matter what!)
Living authentically has always been my main driver. So I become Recruiter of the Universe ( yes Darth Vader WAS placed by me and no I didn't know he was Luke's father ) I win every award there is , work until the wee hours of the morning but what have I achieved really ? What lasting, generational impact have I made in the end? When I leave one job for the other, my achievements will be gone and forgotten to that business faster than you can say Scone (which is a very fast dessert).
What I'm after is generational change........but what does that mean?
Generational change in my mind is an impact or influence you have that affect generation after generation (and where true influence will last forever). Sounds pretty ambitious I know, but I am trying to be the Recruiter of the Universe after all. To dumb it down though, it's taking a look at what does last into eternity. Definitely not my new car, my moola , my promotion or even my Gucci shoes ( which is SO wrong ).
Thought processes - They last for eternity and get passed on from generation to generation. “As long as you are in my house, you will do as I say”- sounds familiar? Or here is another doozie - “because I said so".....it's flashback Friday and I sound like my mom. We have ingrained ways of thinking about every aspect in life - mostly from our parents and most frightening of all is that those thought processes are so seldom questioned.
So what am I saying?
As a Personal Trainer the most important thing was to change the way my overweight clients viewed food. That they will eat for nourishment and NOT to fill the emotional hole with food. Once I changed the way they viewed food, they started relating right to food and their weight dropped off……..and here comes the kicker. So did their families; as now mommy is cooking healthy food for everyone. The kiddies are learning about eating healthy and nutritional food but THEY also then learn to relate right to food, as ultimately parents transfer their belief and value systems to their kids automatically. Which those kids will teach their kids one day.
So now let’s take it a nudge further, we apply this same principal to everyone we engage with every day. We use our influence (in whatever form it might be) to instill thought processes in others around us that ultimately will serve them to become all they want to be , which they will pass on to their kids and their kids to their kids. In essence you have now left a generational change that will last forever.
So if I then have to be in this Rat Race, this crazy merry-go round, it better be worth it. It needs to have maximum impact…because you only get to do it once.

ChatGPT 2025 now calls me "Head of Talent, Tech & Trouble-Making"; have I been extra salty recently?
