If it's a priority, you'll find a way.
72 hours? No worries.

If it's a priority, you'll find a way.

If not, you'll find an excuse.

I have used this phrase many times when discussing priorities and challenges with our team at tprmedia. It cuts through the bullshit and gets to the core of the issue.

At 9am yesterday, I receive a call from our regional office, that the newly renovated Esk Club Hotel is looking to submit an entry for the QHA Awards for Excellence.

Simon called me to ask if it was possible. My first question, what to we need to achieve and when is it due. There are six key points to cover and it's due Friday. So in less than 72 hours, we'd have to develop a brief, put a crew together, film, edit and deliver.

The funny thing is that this is not how entries are usually submitted, it was a last minute idea and a few calls up the chain at the QHA and it was discovered that a video entry would be suitable as long as it met all the criteria.

Now the easy answer is this is totally ridiculous and it's not possible. But we love a creative challenge. On the way to a new client meeting I dropped this bombshell on Lauren Panrucker, our Senior Producer. After the initial shock of the impending deadline, she sprung into action to mobilise a team.

Within four hours, we had assembled a crew, built a shoot schedule and locked in the filming. Just a normal day at the office. The crew will head out today and I'm here reflecting on the positive attitude of our entire team.

I wrote the other day that we seem to approach problems with a spring in our step, it's our thing. We love it. Backed into a corner with no option that to fight our way out.

It's a credit to the character of our team and an attitude of finding the way. It's how a small creative agency launched in 2008 as the GFC collapsed the financial world as we know it, is still here 11 years later.

It's the difference between failure and success, those who talk and those who do. If it's important to you, you will find a way, if not you'll find an excuse.
