It’s parade time (Again!) here’s how to participate in the action.

Most metros in America can wait decades for a moment that Kansas City will celebrate for the third time in five years tomorrow, a parade celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs as NFL Champions. It can be a logistical nightmare, but for Kansas City area residents, familiarity has left us with great plans we know work in order to have a fun day celebrating! This is the fourth time Kansas City has won the Super Bowl (1970, 2020, 2023, 2024) and the first time in twenty years (since 2003-2004) that any team has won back-to-back titles, and the third title for Patrick Mahomes and Coach Andy Reid putting them in truly elite company. So if you're ready to celebrate, let's talk about how you can be a part of something incredible!

The Parade will run from approximately 11AM to a rally at Union Station, happening at 12:45PM, with the area expected to be finished and re-opened by 4PM. In the meantime, many roads and pedestrian crossings will be closed.

For many traveling to the parade, buses or rides are often the easiest and safest route to enjoy the parade.

There are going to be many park & ride locations around the metro for residents to make their way to the event and find their way back.

In the West Bottoms, buses will depart the Hyvee Arena 1800 Genessee St, Kansas City, MO 64102. You will be dropped off, and return pickup from 18th & Troost.

Residents near the Kansas City Zoo will find their shuttle at 6800 Zoo Dr, Kansas City, MO 64132 with parade dropoff and shuttle pick-up at 31st & Gillham

Residents near the old K-Mart (no longer in service) at Chouteau and Vivion can head 2835 NE Vivion Rd, Kansas City, MO 64119 Event Drop Off and Shuttle Pick-up: Truman Road & Lydia

Johnson County Kansas residents can depart from the east side of Oak Park Mall 11149 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS 66214 (95th and Neiman Road Park & Ride location). They will be dropped off and picked up from the event at Avenida Cesar E Chavez & Southwest Boulevard. If you are in Johnson County, shuttle service from the mall will begin at 7AM. The last bus will depart at 10AM. It will be first come, first serve, and if you are not on a bus by 10AM, you will not be able to take the bus to the parade, no exceptions. So arrive early! You will need to park at the mall and walk over to the bus service.

Wyandotte county residents can board transit at the 47th Street State Transit Center, 849 N 47th St, Kansas City, KS 66102. Buses will then drop off and pick-up at Hy-Vee Arena. Transfer rides will be available using Ride KC.

If you plan on parking near the parade, realize many areas will be zoned no-parking, and as in the past, expect to pay a premium for parking spaces. You may also find it more difficult to get in or out of the location. I would strongly encourage you to use a ride service or bus. If that is not an option you have and you want to take your own vehicle, park at a distance and utilize bike services like ridekcbike.com or bird.co if it is not too far, or park off-area such as the west bottoms and make your way into the area utilizing ride-share services. This undocumented “trick” has saved many a lot of heartache in their ability to get in and out of the event.

Recognize the rules of the parade. Because cell towers can only handle so much unified data at once, the fact that so many residents will be in one area at the same time means that you can expect limited data services. Everyone will be wanting to stream video and audio, and that will result in exceptionally poor service. Instead of streaming your video or trying, record the moment so you have it to share later. Take photos.

Respect the property of the parade. Please, pick up your trash and make sure to keep the parade route safe. If you have a medical emergency, please call 911. Medics and ambulances are available, and if a person near you needs medical help, please call for them and make sure emergency services are able to reach them and do their critical job.

Do not park in no-park zones or on personal property if you do not have clearance to do so! Your car will be towed at your expense, and you may also face significant fines depending on where you have parked. Park only in areas that are parking lots or areas that are marked as safe to park for attendees with red flags and parade markers.

Obey the safety laws. Drones and motorized flying devices are expressly forbidden and you can be prosecuted by the FAA for having such a device in the air at this event.

Keep your purse, bag, cooler, or anything you carry with you at all times. Unattended bags should be reported to the police.

If you are separated from your party, look for a safe zone. There are seven safe zones for anyone (especially children) lost from their party.

  1. T-Mobile Center Concourse 14th & Grand
  2. UMB Bank 928 Grand Blvd
  3. The Kansas City Missouri Police Department 1125 Locust St
  4. UMB Bank 1800 Grand Blvd
  5. Resurrection Downtown 1601 Grand Blvd
  6. Blue Cross & Blue Shield – West side entrance 2301 Main St
  7. Lunchland at Crown Center ?2475 Grand. This is located on the Third Level above SEA LIFE Aquarium and LEGOLAND DISCOVERY CENTER

From past reports, please make sure you are bringing a younger child that they stay with you at all times! Make sure your child has a way to identify you by name, or identification on them to help with speedy reunification if they are separated from you. We want a safe and anxiety free event for families wanting to attend.

Finally, enjoy the day! If you can’t make the parade, most local television stations will of course be broadcasting and it is perfectly OK to sit inside and watch the parade. After all, here in Kansas City we are already dreaming about a three-peat.
