It’s Okay to Make it Easy
Last month, I had Christmas lunch with my friend Eve.
I waited 2 hours for her to get to the hotel restaurant because it was a nightmare getting a Grab that day (southeast Asian equivalent of Uber).
And after we finally enjoyed a great Peruvian lunch, we stayed at the restaurant trying to book Grab cars on our apps again.?
We spent 45 minutes waiting to book a ride, and when I noticed my phone battery was down to 10% I suggested we go down the hotel lobby and ask the concierge to hail us cabs instead.
I emphasized to him that I would be more than happy to pay a premium. He then mentioned that they had hotel limo service but it’s normally 3-4x more expensive.
I told him to ask if there was anything available, and if so, I’d take it. There was, so I did.
Because it was a two-stop drop off, we were charged twice. Still — the total was no more than the price of a bottle of my favorite wine.
The best part about this? I got home in less than 45 minutes, and my housekeeper just happened to be in the same area so she joined us in the car!
Most people would think “Isn’t getting a hotel limo service too pricey or extravagant just to get home?” or “OMG! 4x the regular car service???!! And you paid twice for the two-stop drop???!!!l

It’s worth noting that I was once quite poor and lacking — counting every penny and listing every single cent that I spent in my little notebook.
And I’ve never forgotten what those days were–
… the days I said no to invites because I couldn’t afford food
… the days where I’d walk miles and miles because I couldn’t afford to pay for a cab
… the days I woke up at 5am to catch a 6am bus and get to where I interned by 9am
… the days I cleaned classrooms for an extra $2.50 / hour
?I’m not ashamed of where and how I started, but I’ve always kept my focus on the future and what I’m creating: the unknown chapter, the chapter of ease and effortlessness.
Magic is always about stretching our realities and expanding our narratives.
Friend– let’s make life easy, shall we??
Whether that’s a limo ride home, outsourcing your cleaning or laundry, reorganizing your schedule, or just ordering delivery because you don’t feel like cooking, there’s always a path of least resistance and a way to make things easier.?
Don’t be afraid to look, to ask, to try… and keep an open and curious mind. You never know what new options you might find!

2 年I rather pay a few cents extra to pull into a gas station that's easy to drive in and out of. The same goes for choosing a less busy store than Walmart. The few extra dollars are worth the peace of mind.
