It's Okay to Leave Work on Time as Often as We Can

It's Okay to Leave Work on Time as Often as We Can

You have a LIFE to live too! You get paid to run your life, but it’s definitely not your life after all. Driving by my office building at around 8 p.m, I see people still sitting at their desks, stretching on their hours, and struggling with their to-do lists. Do they really have too much to do at work or they sit at their desks in the guilt of leaving office on time? Do not get me wrong.

Nobody owes the company more hours with more efforts during extra time or just making a show of working overtime doing stuff that can be easily done the next day during normal working hours.

It always makes me wonder - How would it be to work for such companies? I strongly believe we need to practice the art of leaving the office on time to achieve both professional and personal life balance.

Also, evening routines are much harder to master than morning routines and consecutively our morning routines will suffer if we are not able to manage our evening routine and our sleep. So, we need to make a change.

Don’t let life be meaningless and defined by what you do for a living

You will never be able to define the purpose of your life if you do not find time away from office. You need time to socialize, relax and find a more meaningful life apart from working 40 hours a week otherwise your life will become dull and faded.

There is always going to be more work - so say NO

It might be a guilty feeling for you when leaving office on time and you may feel that you are not committed enough. But just remember that there is always going to be more work, you have to harness the idea of time management and leave the work on time.

We are not supposed to be all-work machines

You definitely did not study this hard to treat yourself as a machine. We cannot let our mind and body to be always ready for performing extraordinary that involves long work working hours. We are creative beings, and we need time off from work to relax our mind.

If you take time for yourself, your work quality will be better

On another note, if you regularly leave on time it means you get to do things like exercise, spend time with people you love, sleep, relax and explore other interests. As long as you have a good way to keep work-related stress at bay when you're out of the office, all of these things are going to result in your work quality improving.

You cannot measure the interests of your client and family

Your family is probably going to enrich your life more than your clients. At the time of emotional pain, your family will be with you. Because of work, people lose a connection with their parents or children that gives them a pain in the long run.

Keep your clients happy but do not let your work consume you. The primary focus of your life should have an equal balance between clients and family.

Make time for your hobbies and interests

Not all of us are lucky enough to find a job that enfolds our passion and interests while some happen to have a job with all technicalities to earn a good living. Whatever is the case, we should spare enough time to do things that provide joy to our life other than office work. Leave from office on time to make significant time after your job for playful relaxation and pursuing your hobbies.

To end with, looking after your health - mental and physical well being should never be ignored. Not to mention you will probably be a better person and have a good balance between work and life. Make it a goal to leave on time but stay a little longer when to help others, to finish what you started, to start a new initiative, to talk to people you didn’t get a chance to see but keep it to minimal.

Speak for your right and stop feeling weird about leaving work on time. Get home on time to be less likely to be burned out. Your job is not your life, it is a part of your life. Enjoy both.

we are working in a multinational organisations with people working in different time zones, some times we need to match our time with their.. time to ensure work is done on time.. it is not easy in an environment where corporates are on cost cutting mode and reducing workforce to ensure optimal workforce, its difficult to balance out between work and life, theoretically this article is great to read but practically its nearly impossible to follow . Half of the time goes in meeting and calls during the day , replying emails/queries from other . and rest other goes on adhoc work which comes in middle of no where, so the time remains for routine work is only what we do in extended hours or balance of the time we balanced say it for so called family time. Try to add a new headcount in an organisation and you will be asked 100 questions and justification.
