It's ok to cry

It's ok to cry

I’ve noticed that when I am helping people by talking with how they feel about their work and themselves, they often say ‘sorry’ when they cry.

I always insist that they do not need to apologise. I firmly believe that we should embrace all of our emotions, especially the tough ones. If we push them away “we lose our capacity to deal with the world as it is, not as we wish it to be” (David, 2018).

Toxic or false positivity happens when people believe they should avoid negative thinking and be more positive, even when things are difficult. I’ll be honest, when you work with me, you do need to be prepared to feel a whole range of emotions because “discomfort is the price of admission to a meaningful life” (David, 2018). However I can assure you I will unconditionally support you, genuinely listen and make it feel safe. Let’s talk.
