It’s Official –Cloud Consulting Leaders Nordcloud and Taos are IBM Companies

Only around 20 percent of IT workloads have moved to cloud. Why? Because companies need to overcome serious hurdles: how to manage multiple clouds and IT vendors, privacy, regulation, data sovereignty, security and compliance. A hybrid cloud strategy is how you get to the other 80 percent. It brings all of the benefits of cloud computing to all parts of your IT environment with an open approach.

Our clients are increasingly taking a more holistic approach to application modernization and cloud that allows them to operate across a traditional IT environment, private cloud and public clouds. That’s at the heart of our hybrid cloud approach.

This is a critical focus area for our clients and a significant market opportunity –which is why I am so excited that IBM has officially closed its acquisitions of Nordcloud, the European leader in cloud implementation, application transformation and managed services and Taos, one of the largest multi-cloud consulting and managed services firms in North America.

Let me be among the first to welcome Nordcloud and Taos employees, clients and partners to the IBM family.

These market-leading firms add hundreds of new certified team members across public cloud domains (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure) in Europe and the Americas. Nordcloud and Taos advance our cloud migration and transformation capabilities with deep consulting expertise and innovative solutions to drive growth and adoption of IBM’s hybrid cloud approach globally.

IBM has a long history of successfully integrating a range of technologies for our clients globally. We’ve been systematically expanding the breadth and depth of our hybrid cloud offerings to manage complex integrations –of technologies, people and processes.

Now, as we advance IBM’s cloud migration and transformation capabilities with new players like Taos and Nordcloud, with highly sought-after skills and talent, we are offering our clients flexibility and choice in a multi-cloud world.

According to IDC, “Customers increasingly find themselves needing to not only move applications but also to engage in custom development, training, and optimization of their environments, which increasingly include a variety of cloud environments (public, private, and hybrid). The acquisitions of Taos and Nordcloud are important expansions to IBM's customer portfolio, cross-cloud skills base, and process IP for modernization and software engineering. They add hundreds of certified team members across all three public cloud domains and bring software engineering talent and tools and IP for quick and less costly migration. Finally, Nordcloud in Europe and Taos in the United States amplify IBM's mission to become the multicloud management leader, including across not only IBM's cloud but other public cloud providers as well.”*

Our mission is clear: to partner with clients on their journey to the hybrid cloud. What really matters is not the cloud, it’s what you do when you get there. Build once, run anywhere. Integrate data and workloads. Innovate anywhere with anyone's technology. Hybrid cloud is where open innovation happens. To learn more, visit https://www.ibm.com/services.

IBM has quite poor track record on acquisitions within tech industry. Starting from 1990's till date, IBM has paid over 30B USD in acquiring companies that didn't scale post acquisition. Almost 75% of Software Group was built on acquisitions and as things stands, it's less than 20B business. Cloud acquisitions are no exception , starting from Softlayer in 2013. One would hope IBM management gets better results with these new round of acquisitions under new leadership.
