It's Monday Again

Well, it's Monday again. For those who are feeling unfulfilled in their career, Mondays are tough. When your work is not meaningful to you, getting back into your chair this morning can seem like you are the proverbial hamster on the wheel, never making any progress forward in your life. The good news is it doesn't have to be that way.?

As a youth sports coach I spend a lot of time encouraging players to stay focused on the things they can control - their emotions, attitude, effort, and preparation. The same advice applies everywhere, not just in youth sports. If you are unhappy in your career, it's 100% within your control to do something about it. How you react to being unfulfilled matters. You can either push it under the rug for another day hoping you'll feel better tomorrow, or you can take action that puts you on a different path. It's up to you.

There's a line in one my favorite songs that basically says, if you've got a dream, chase it, because the dream won't chase you back. I love that line. So often we get stuck in our career ruts, meandering from day to day without a clear purpose or sense of direction. People often regret the chances they never take.?

Last week in San Antonio I was fortunate to meet with nearly 100 franchise brands. Let me just say this, if you are interested in finding a franchise that is a good fit for you, I came across some really interesting ones last week. Here are just a few examples, in no particular order:

1. Home-based business that provides services in the home. The company operates in an industry that does not have a dominant nationwide competitor, and offers either owner-operator or semi-absentee ownership options. Ongoing costs are low, and the service they provide ultimately has a positive impact on the environment.?
2. Retail opportunity that typically occupies 2,500 - 5,000 s.f., and has virtually no employees! This one requires a sizeable investment, but is also one of the simplest semi-absentee industries available.
3. Emerging brand with no nationwide competitor and relatively low investment. As you drive down any commercial corridor, every building that you see is a potential customer. This is an international franchising company that is just beginning to franchise in the USA.
4. A new kid-focused concept that offers franchisees a chance to positively impact the lives of children. This is a business that has extremely low ongoing expenses, is home-based, and helps kids stay active. The organization is mission-driven and offers centralized digital marketing support along with a proprietary business management system.

These are just a few examples of the nearly 100 companies that I met with last week. I offer these only as examples of what's out there; there are many more that I didn't mention.??
