It's a miracle?
Early in October, see previous post about keeping one's old handset just in case, I dropped my Blackberry KeyOne handset and it broke into 2 pieces. A week later it was sent to be repaired and on the 18th October, the repairers sent it back by UK Mail. Unfortunately, although the package had the correct address, the addressee was Kerry Jones - plainly not me! - but the repairers did not send me a message to say that it would be delivered a couple of days later. I was not in on the 20th, the due date, but UK Mail did not leave me a card to say they couldn't get an answer.
Some weeks went by and I wondered why the repair was taking so long. It was then, after a lot of emails and conversations with UK Mail, the repairers and others, that I discovered that UK Mail had a signature, 'Rutherford', for the package so as far as they were concerned they had delivered it. But, adamant though they were, it would appear not to my address because I didn't have the package. UK Mail promised that the delivery man would come and explain where the package had been left. He didn't!
In the end, last Saturday, I emailed the UK Mail CEO. He replied within an hour and wrote that he would contact his team for my area and, sure enough on Monday I was telephoned by the Area Manager, to whom I explained in detail and he promised that it would be looked into. On Tuesday morning, he telephoned to say that the package had been retrieved and would be delivered to me that afternoon, which it was.
Bear with me for just a moment longer!
Now the amazing miracle is that the package remained where it had been delivered - I understand to 96 Holland Road - where it had lain unopened for two and a half months. I had given it up for lost believing that the handset had disappered into the Black Economy! But, even more amazing, 'Rutherford' had signed for something not addressed to him/her at an address that wasn't on the package but was around the block about 150 yards away from my front door OR walk straight across Holland Road to the back door! I am not sure whether to praise for keeping it and unopened or criticize for not attempting to deliver it or leave a note to say where it was.
Anyway, three cheers! I have my handset. Hip, hip, hip..... hooray!
