In talking with demand gen marketers, many are in a growth slump right now. I'm hearing things like:

  • "Meetings booked are down again this week."
  • "Ads aren't converting anymore."
  • "I've got a serious gap between targets and actual I need to make up somehow."

No it's not just you. There's a lot of red in marketing dashboards this July.

See, this is a new environment that many of us haven't seen before. And if you have ridden this wave before, then it's been a while.

And with the rapid advancements of AI, the change has only been accelerated.?

But I'm here to tell you that it's not as grim as it seems. There's a group of people just like you who are working together to up-level themselves as modern marketers.

What The F Is Going On Right Now (And What Should I Do About It)?

The game is changing right below our feet. But it's not just one change. It's a full shuffle at every level that's requires us to take pause and re-evaluate our next moves.

Macro-level is influenced by the economy:

I won't pretend that I completely understand what's going on when it comes to interest rates and inflation. But I do know that when cash is expensive (as it is now), it's much less appealing to borrow. That means that Chief Financial Officers at companies of all sizes have needed to step up and reduce costs to weather the drought.?

Trends at this level are impossible to influence, and therefore should not be worried about.

Mid-level is influenced by technology:

I may not know the technical differences between machine learning and artificial intelligence, but I do know it feels like absolute magic.?

A dumb example, but I was able to create this hyper-realstic image of a raccoon in a purple utility vest for a marketing campaign with a 15 word prompt.

Companies in every category are needing to re-build their products from the ground up now that this new way of solving problems and interfacing with computers exists.?

Trends at this level influence your career and the company you work at. The best way to learn about this new technology is to use it – don't just study.?

Micro-level is influenced by people:

Monetary policies and silicon chips don't have emotions, but we do. And when something that's out of our control changes, and it puts us in a precarious position, we react. And for most in our industry, the reaction right now is uncertainty.

  • ?Will I be able to hit my marketing KPIs this quarter?
  • Will the product I sell and the company I work for evolve fast enough for the market to see value?
  • How will all this affect my career progression?

Unfortunately, I don't have a crystal ball to help you answer those questions.?
