It's just a small gesture from us! ( Caring for Your Oral Health )
Hope you and your family are safe and healthy in these tough Covid times. All of us are going through a lot of change right now. The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has disrupted our lives in many ways.
While there are a lot of things we can’t do, we can still take care of our health.
Simple Oral Hygiene Measures could help lower the risk of transmission of the novel coronavirus from the mouth to the lungs and help prevent severe instances of Covid-19, according to a study. The researchers noted that the coronavirus could pass into people's lungs from saliva with the virus moving directly from mouth to bloodstream -- particularly if individuals are suffering from gum disease. Evidence shows that blood vessels of the lungs, rather than airways, are affected initially in Covid-19 lung disease with high concentrations of the virus in saliva and periodontitis associated with an increased risk.
Oral health is essential to our overall well-being and is important to maintain good health beyond oral hygiene, but due to COVID-19, some dental offices across the country are still currently closed, and postponing non-emergency dental treatment, it’s more important than ever to keep up with your dental home care.
How should I keep my teeth healthy during COVID-19?
With a lot of us working from home and adjusting to new routines, it’s easy to put aside our dental health. Here are a few tips to help:
- Brush at least twice a day– be sure to get those hard-to-reach spots
- Floss once a day – this helps remove bacteria and plaque in places your brush can’t reach
- Eat a well-balanced diet – limit sticky, sugary snacks like cake and cookies
- Limit frequency of snacking – frequent snacking increases your risk of cavities
- Limit sugary drinks – soda and fruit juices can harm tooth surfaces
- Drink plenty of water – drink water with meals and between meals
- Avoid smoking – Smoking limits blood flow to your mouth, making it easier for bacteria to grow
Even some patients who are able to have a dental exam are choosing to postpone routine checkups and cleanings during the pandemic. Oral care routines have certainly changed this year but if you are unable to secure a dental appointment and want to protect your oral health between visits, effective brushing and flossing are key.
Recently, I have joined the board of Oracura Solutions Pvt Limited. I am looking after the position of responsibility of Branding & Marketing for Brand Oracura. ORACURA is formerly known as OralCare Solutions is a leading developer and marketer of innovative dental healthcare products.
