It's July and that can mean only 1 thing...

The EU Ai Act is here!

Happy July! I know many of us are heading off on holidays this month but before you put your ‘out of office’ on and jet set somewhere nice I wanted to send you some exciting Ai updates.

First, I want to?kick off this issue with a link to a legal post!

This one also got us very excited...?

The Five Basic Facts of the Act As with any new law, there are devils in the details. But you can use this list to help you get the key points:

  1. It is designed to create a comprehensive legal framework for the development, deployment and use of AI systems.
  2. Its full text, expected to be published in late July 2024, becomes law in mid-August.
  3. Rules on prohibited AI systems and AI literacy will come into force in February next year - giving you (just) enough time to adjust and adapt.
  4. Implementation will be overseen by a European Artificial Intelligence Board, with national supervisory authorities in each member state.
  5. Non-compliance penalties can reach up to €30 million or 6% of global annual turnover, whichever is higher.?

The EU AI Act sets out 4 levels of risk for AI: Unacceptable, High, Limited, and Minimal.

For most of us who are engaging with Generative AI, we fall into the Limited Risk category. In this category, the key is Transparency, which means:

  • Informing users: Clearly indicating when they are interacting with AI.
  • Labeling AI-generated content: Especially if it could be mistaken for human-created content.
  • Training and awareness: Ensuring everyone in your organisation understands the transparency requirements and the importance of compliance.

I'm sure you agree that now is a great time to think about investing in some? Generative AI Training.

Our comprehensive courses exceed EU AI Act compliance standards, offering:

  • Techniques to enhance AI output diversity
  • In-depth understanding of model training data and privacy controls
  • Methods to retrieve and manage sensitive prompts
  • Advanced strategies for mitigating bias in text-to-image and text-to-video applications

Participants gain practical skills in how to navigate the evolving AI landscape responsibly and effectively.

I've included dates and details of our upcoming courses at the bottom of this email if you want to learn more. ?????

Download our Latest Ai Policy Guide?

We've updated our Ai policy template, which now includes guidelines on the use of Ai-powered meeting recorders. This template, which has been downloaded 480 times, covers best practices for ethical Ai use, privacy considerations, and ways to address potential biases in language models.

Many executives and leaders have found this resource helpful when introducing Ai policies in their organisations. If you'd like to use or adapt our template, we simply ask that you reference our site as a source. This helps others find up-to-date information and supports our work in promoting responsible Ai usage.

The text-to-video space has seen a surge in activity lately. Runway was the original darling of this space, but it was quickly overshadowed by OpenAi's Sora in February of this year. Hearts were aflutter again recently due to Runway's latest Gen3 and Luma Labs Dream Machine. Interested to know more? Let's take a look over on LinkedIn.
