It’s The Impact That Matters!
On December 6, 2016, Red Propeller received the Business Achievement Award for Employer of the Year from the Ontario Job Opportunity Information Network (JOIN) at its 13th annual conference.
Red Propeller had been in operation for only a year, so the award came as a pleasant surprise. From the beginning, March of Dimes Canada has connected Red Propeller with individuals looking for employment. Our goal has always been to provide long-term employment for those with barriers, offering them a positive work experience within our operations.
Red Propeller had a two-fold mission: to provide employment to those with barriers and to target materials outside of existing recycling programs to generate employment. The materials required labour to separate the components for recycling.
It was the inherent meaning of work—the dignity of being employable, feeling included in the labour force, and feeling valued in the community. To our employees, the significance of being employed meant much more than financial gains. Coming to work at the Red Propeller facility enriched their work experience and boosted their sense of self-worth.
The award from JOIN encouraged us: Success is not always measured in numbers; it’s the impact we make that matters. Business was important, and so were people.
