Since I have been in Bangladesh I have had the honor and privilege to work with surrounding, local NGO's while working with Helen Keller International.
What occurs to me is the industriousness of the people and the society that is on the march. It's exciting to watch.
This local NGO, It's Humanity Foundation, settled upon the theme of climate change and global warming. The idea was to put to children ideas for sustainable and renewable energy alternatives that can be used and leveraged in rural communities using only those materials found around them. What we saw were plastic bottles turned into composting apparatus, we saw wind energy and tiny hydro-turbines from children who had not viewed or witnessed these before. Re-inventing the wheel say you? What was remarkable was how these children ranging in ages 5-10 came up with ideas how to reduce pollution, carbon emissions and replace them with solutions with materials from the local environment.
Looking forward to seeing what IHF intends to do next.
