It’s Not Human Resources, It’s Neuro Resources!

In this Thinking (Knowledge) Economy of ours, one of the huge mistakes organizations make is seeing employees just as bodies to be managed instead of being Brains to be managed, there’s a huge difference there!

First, we must admit that the failure of leaders or managers has nothing to do with their professional knowledge, knowledge of their area, nor it has to do with their neurocognitive functions. The main Leadership Failure is related to a lack of self-awareness from the ‘Neuro’/Brain perspective. Simply put, Leadership Failure is mainly?a?lack of emotional conditioning awareness and control as well as self-leadership.?This is the first prerequisite that a NeuroLeader should have.?

It is important?to?know?that?the?emotional?conditioning?can?alter?the?performance?of the executive functions - prefrontal cortex, and even if we have extensive knowledge in our field or business, the emotions may inhibit our ability to put the knowledge to practice; our brain won’t be able to make it possible. Moreover, self-leadership of the emotional conditioning also implies overcoming stress.?Knowing that stress has a negative influence in the brain by depleting its resources, we must think differently. With that?in?mind, the most important aspect of a?Neuroleader?is the emotional self-regulating skill – Self-Regulation. A skill that can be accomplished by training on the ability to regulate stress and emotions, call it Brain Gym. Why?should?we?do?this??Because?emotions?normally?result?in?a?faster?response?than?the?Neurocognitive?Decision.?This is why?emotions end up prevailing and it is important to admit that the first stimulation has a greater influence than the second or later ones.?

My goal in using ‘Veli Ndaba NeuroEngineering Leadership Effect’ #VNNLE has been to closely study the biology of leadership tasks which are what leaders do and how they can get better at them by understanding the brain. Why does this matter for leaders? Well, you may really think that you manage People when in fact you are managing Brains. Thinking is the work today; people are thinking for a living and it’s the brain that does the thinking. So, in many ways, we must learn to maximise thinking if we want to maximise performance.
