It's harder than it looks!
So for the past few years I have been fundraising for Help for Heroes and at first I was able to rattle the charity tin at friends and work colleagues and I have to say that I am extremely grateful for every penny they have donated and they have been brilliant - although I think I have overdone it recently :-)
To alleviate this I now focus my efforts on organising collection events at local supermarkets, quiz nights at my local pub and taking part in various cycling challenges. This takes up a lot of time and without the support of my wife and kids it just wouldn't be possible.
I suppose the reason for my article is that I have tried on a few occasions to get donations from local businesses either in kind or money with little success and wondered if anyone could provide me with some sound advice on how best to approach businesses for support.

7 年There are really special ex servicemen on LI and I notice their posts, hopefully they have some thoughts. Can you afford to pay a marketing company to jump start an effort and ask them to kick in support? Check the bios of CEOs and Presidents to see if they have served in the armed forces and if so appeal to their good nature. Most of us have a place in our heart for our servicemen and women but you have to be gently persuasive and play on that goodwill.
