It’s not a goodbye, just a see you soon.

It’s not a goodbye, just a see you soon.

It’s been six months since I left the place that changed me in a way. Why am I writing it now? Honestly, I tried writing it down multiple times, but for some reason was not able to, maybe because I couldn’t get my thoughts together, or maybe because I was never too good at expressing how I feel to the outside world. I’m a fortunate guy to have met friends from multiple countries, so I just hope you all find one thing you relate to in my short-story.

May 17th, 2017 was my first day in India. “What’s the worst case scenario?” is a question I always try to ask myself before making big decisions in my life. In most cases, the answer is minimal if you put it against what you can gain, and that’s what brought me to India, an instant decision.

Some great Indian food in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

It takes time to realise how complex, yet simple, India is. I did feel that it hit me the moment I landed, but took me three years to realise what I actually went through. I came to India with no friends, or family, which was one of the hardest things for me at that point. You have no idea what role your family & friends play in your life until you start a new life in a new country. Suddenly I found myself in a place where I need to start things from scratch. Learn the culture, the environment, the food [damn, I miss it], build friendships and relationships. Build a new life.

WeWork was a big part of my journey in India. Sometimes, before I go to sleep at night, I think about some of the highest highs and lowest lows I’ve gone through in my career in India. When someone puts you in a position where you’re responsible for a group of people, small or big, you need to always balance any self-doubt you have, with the understanding that people made a decision to bet on you and not anyone else, and that balance is what pushes you to do more and be the leader you always wanted to be. Between the ups and downs, the best days, and the not so great, I only wish to myself that people felt like they’re always being treated with respect, regardless of the situation, the pressure, the intensity, or anything else, “Treat others the way you want to be treated” and as I move on, I hope I was able to give that feeling to those around me.

KR Market, Bangalore

Throughout those past three years, and somewhere between the pollution of Delhi, the traffic of Bangalore, the density of Mumbai, the Biryani of Hyderabad, and the most beautiful places in between, I felt at home. I wish I was able to list down all the memories I cherished. Sometimes I find myself going through random photos, and videos, smiling, and thinking “how in the hell I got so lucky”, and what great times we had. Be it the weddings in Jaipur, Kerala, or Bangalore, the trips to Andaman, Ooty, Lonavla, or Coorg, the endless nights on 12th main, the daily, laughing llama, third-wave, 13th floor in BKC, cafe-max, Bandra-west, Platina opening night, the Holi party, the friends from all different cities, the rickshaws, hundreds of dosas, Biryani, and butter-chicken, the karaoke nights, Rajasthan with my parents, the different cakes I had to wash off my face, the holidays..Diwali, the long nights we had working and building an amazing company together, or lastly — the people who genuinely became some of my best friends in life: I left India speechless.

WeWork’s Summer Camp

So what’s next? after spending the past six months in Tel Aviv with friends & family: I am starting a new role with WeWork and I will be moving to?London?in a few weeks to start my next chapter in life!

I came to India because of WeWork, I stayed because of its people, and I can’t wait to go back.
