My Buy Black stand/study was 11 years ago. Not a fad or hashtag. Donate to my 501c3, The Empowerment Experiment Fdtn OR Buy my book. GIVING TUESDAY!

The purpose of The Empowerment Experiment - my family's historic stand and study completely living off the fantastic businesses, professionals and products of the Black community - was to empower, and prove my love and pride for, my community with my spending. On "Giving Tuesday" I am asking all of you, who love and support me and cheer me on as I make The Empowerment Experiment movement my life, to do the same.

Put your money where your community is! Donate to the groups, causes, charities that proudly, proactively, publicly support our community's institutions and businesses. The Empowerment Experiment Foundation (EEF), my family's foundation, a 501c3, keeps its funds in a Black-owned bank, and partners with other businesses and nonprofits that enable and demonstrate economic solidarity. And most importantly, we are raising money to 1) build Maggie's List; and 2) create a research and advocacy center and school that will teach self-help economics, pursue and prove where our buying power is going and what it is doing, and track the impacts of conscious consumerism, self-help economics, supplier diversity, and buying local (see pics above and below for an example of the HBCU students I've taught and who I want to activate the EEF vision).

We also want to fund the new "Black Owned Hair Care Challenge" (www.BlackOwnedHairCareChallenge.com) an education and empowerment campaign to identify and drive support to Black owned hair care brands and beauty supply stores, while fighting for more representation in major retailers and transparency re actual ownership of popular Black hair care companies; AND 4) otherwise continue the research, advocacy, and activism we started and showed during our year supporting Black owned businesses and that I wrote about in my book, "Our Black Year" By Maggie Anderson.

When you buy my book, proceeds help us keep this message and movement moving. Buy my book on my site, www.OurBlackYear.com. NOT AMAZON. We receive nothing when you get it there. And when you buy it directly from me, your money goes back into the community and it is the only way you can get a signed copy!

Even if you choose not to support EEF, just give today to a candidate, church, chamber, cause or charity that you know is doing good work. Fighting racism, demanding justice, teaching and facilitating empowerment aint easy. It is daunting, depressing, and lonely. There is so much to do and the odds are against us. I love you!

With thanks and love... Maggie Anderson
