It's Giving Positive News!??

Hello solutions seekers! ?

This is just a small note to say thank you for reading The Solutionists.

In many ways, telling these stories and sharing them within our circles helps to elevate the work of young people who are fighting to make our world a better place.

As a one-woman band, it's been encouraging to see more and more people subscribe to the newsletter and reach out to share new stories, and feedback, about this publication.

The best part of my work is talking about change and telling stories from innovators who are making a difference. Feel inspired, stay informed, and be encouraged that there is some positive change in our world and it's not all doom and gloom.

Thank you for being solution seekers!

?? Indias Garbage Cafes

In the heart of India’s bustling capital, a unique initiative is helping tackle the problem of plastic waste while offering warm meals to those in need. It all started in 2020, when the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched an innovative program called "garbage cafes." The idea is simple: bring in your plastic waste, and in exchange, enjoy a free meal.

For every kilogram of plastic waste dropped off at these designated cafes, people receive a voucher for lunch or dinner. Even smaller amounts, like 250 grams, can be exchanged for breakfast. Items such as empty water bottles, soft drink containers, and other plastic materials are all eligible. ??

This idea is to help reduce plastic waste while promoting proper disposal practices. The cafes collect the plastic, hand it over to the municipal organisation, and it’s then recycled and repurposed. For many, these cafes are more than just places to eat. They’re part of a larger movement that’s making people more mindful about waste, supporting families, and giving the planet a helping hand, all while serving up hot meals and hope for a better future. https://reasonstobecheerful.world/india-garbage-cafes-free-meals/

???? 4 Day Work Week & Fertility?

Tokyo is introducing a four-day workweek for government employees starting in April, aiming to support working parents and address Japan’s record-low fertility rates. The plan was announced the plan to help address the need to protect livelihoods and offer flexibility so no one has to choose between career and family.

The initiative gives employees three days off in a week, while another policy allows parents with young children to leave work early in exchange for a small salary reduction. By rethinking work styles, Tokyo hopes to ease the pressure on families and encourage a healthier work-life balance to boost the nation’s birthrate.

???? Climate Change & Sign Language

A fantastic new chapter is unfolding in British Sign Language (BSL) as fresh words have been set up to help communicate about climate change and environmental issues. As our planet calls out for action, it's more important than ever for everyone to join the conversation about what's happening to our world.

Crafting new signs for terms like "greenhouse gases," "carbon footprint," and "sustainability" is meant to help include more people and capture the true meaning of sign language. A passionate team at the University of Edinburgh has risen to the occasion, bringing together deaf scientists and educators to pave the way for inclusivity.

About 400 new environmental science terms have been approved in BSL, thanks to the dedicated sign creation workshops at the Scottish Sensory Centre. This groundbreaking effort ensures that the deaf community can fully engage in vital discussions about our planet's future, adding a meaningful contribution to the dialogue on climate action.
