It’s Giving, “Giving” - Creative Wins from Giving Tuesday 2024

The spirit of giving is in the air. Giving Tuesday will be a huge win for non-profits yet again. Donation management startup, Benevity, processed $3.2 billion in donations to 265,000 causes in 2023 — a 14% jump from 2022 — and a similar increase is expected this year. We believe a big driver of the rise in generosity is attributed to brands that care. When purpose-driven brands mobilize consumers to go one step beyond the purchase, there’s no limit to the good that can be accomplished.?

We’ve seen incredible examples of donation innovation this year, and we’re here to celebrate them. Here are some creative wins we’ve seen today from our favorite brands and non-profits.?

Time is a Priceless Commodity: Brands That Volunteered This Tuesday

TOMS

For TOMS, giving back is a year-round mission. However, on Giving Tuesday, rather than donate proceeds or shoes, TOMS employees volunteered their time. The team celebrated Giving Tuesday through their “Community Impact Day” where employees engaged in various activities, including cooking meals for women at LA’s Downtown Women’s Center, distributing fresh produce with Venice Family Clinic, and reprocessing soap in China to provide year-long supplies for people in need. These efforts highlight TOMS' commitment to collective action and making a global difference.

Thrive Causemetics Inc.

Thrive Causemetics also made a direct impact with its Giving Tuesday initiative. The company amplified its Bigger Than Beauty mission by joining forces with Beauty 2 The Streetz. Together, they served over 200 unhoused individuals in Los Angeles, providing food, cosmetic care packages, and beauty services. This volunteering effort embodies Thrive’s dedication to creating positive change through kindness and collaboration, extending its “Virtuous Circle” of generosity to the community.

Going Beyond the Match: Donations for Every Purchase or Social Share

Brightland

Brightland supported World Central Kitchen by donating a chef-prepared meal for every olive oil, vinegar, or honey bottle sold this Giving Tuesday. These meals will go to those suffering from humanitarian emergencies, natural disasters, and man-made crises around the world. Brightland's dedication to combating food insecurity perfectly aligns with its brand values and offering - that deserves a cheers!

Ollie

Ollie celebrated Giving Tuesday with a heartwarming initiative: donating meals to dogs at Marley’s Mutts ranch for every social share. This initiative builds on their long-standing support of the rescue organization that has saved thousands of dogs (Ollie’s campaign goes through the 8th so it’s not too late to support!)

Buy One, Donate One

Parade

Underwear brand Parade found its perfect match this year: non-profit “I Support the Girls.” The company donated a pair of underwear to the non-profit for every one sold. This “buy one, give one” model amplifies the impact of every customer purchase, ensuring that women in need receive essential garments.

Stakt

Similarly, for every mat sold on Giving Tuesday, stakt is donating one to local schools and organizations in the greater Milwaukee and Salt Lake City areas. With their warehouses based in these locations, stakt is demonstrating its value of community and desire to give back to their roots.?

The Power Duos: Collaborative Partnerships With Non-Profits

Vestiaire Collective

Vestiaire Collective partnered with The Or Foundation to launch an upcycled capsule collection from Ghanaian designers, using materials from Kantamanto, the world’s largest secondhand clothing market. Proceeds support The Or Foundation’s Secondhand Solidarity Fund, showcasing a solution to the global issue of overconsumption and waste while promoting sustainable fashion.

OLIPOP PBC

OLIPOP teamed up with Beam to donate 5% of purchases to nonprofits like Trees for the Future and Wholesome Wave. Customers selected a cause that resonated with them at checkout, making it easy to support initiatives like sustainable farming, climate justice, and food accessibility. By adding their Holiday Pack to the cart, customers could double their impact, contributing 10% of proceeds to eco-friendly initiatives or food equity programs.?

Prose

Prose joined forces with Common Ground to promote sustainability, matching every dollar donated to enhance accessibility to fresh food. This partnership reflects Prose’s commitment to fostering a healthier and more sustainable future as well.

KEEN

KEEN is amplifying its commitment to environmental advocacy this Giving Tuesday by increasing its donation to Protect Our Winters (POW) by $10,000 and matching individual contributions up to $60,000. A proud POW Brand Alliance member, KEEN supports initiatives like the Stoke The Vote campaign and the Footprints on Katmai film, alongside funding the impactful work of POW's Science Alliance. This partnership empowers outdoor enthusiasts to protect the places they love, doubling their impact through Giving Tuesday contributions.

Rewards = Donations

Tru Earth

We might be biased, but our partner Tru Earth is making waves with their Giving Tuesday initiative. To remove trash and collect critical data on ocean pollution, Tru Earth customers can convert loyalty rewards points to dollars in support of the Shoreline Cleanup Program (thanks to rediem's reward platform!)

With rediem , you can launch initiatives to inspire change all year long. Rather than limit your impact to a singular day or month, drive your mission forward by rewarding consumers for taking action.?An outdoors company might reward customers for partaking in a brand sponsored hike, a beauty brand could rally support for ingredient transparency, or a food retailer might gather user-generated content (UGC) celebrating community donations.?

Join the Movement

Giving Tuesday is a clear demonstration that brands can be powerful agents of change. Whether through volunteering, donations, or sustainable partnerships, their efforts prove that doing good is always in style. Let’s strive to make every day as impactful as today!
